Haven’t been really listening to anything new, same ol’ songs. I listened to my On Repeat playlist in full for the first time, and man there was a lot of tonal whiplash between the songs.

It consisted of a lot of dark Vocaloid songs in Japanese, a catchy theme song for a kid’s show, silly songs, instrumental video game track that sounds super goofy, a Tenacious D song, and a song about a broken relationship between a woman and her ex-boyfriend.

I listen to a bit of random stuff that absolutely clash in tone with what they are about. I almost never listen to the playlists Spotify makes for me, cuz I prefer to be the one in control of which songs play rather than it being in shuffle. But I think I need to listen to different songs instead. I have heard some Prince and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs in the car recently, and they sounded nice.

EDIT: Actually, that isn’t all that I’m listening to! I was on this “daily bad song” account on Instagram and heard some of Burning Men’s Soul, by Taku Iwasaki, and I heard the full thing and holy cow this song is hilariously bad, sort of “so bad it’s good.” The instrumental sounds slightly weird, but the singing is the standout. There is no flow, rhyme, or any coherent lyrics; they are extremely basic, like “I’m in the house like carpet” and “I don’t eat pork or swine when I dine” and just a bunch of words smashed together, and when there is some chance for rhyming, it is followed up with a word that doesn’t rhyme.

A fun fact, this song actually comes from a piece of Persona media, an anime called Persona -trinity soul-. For the song, the singing is actually taken from a rap album that was made for people to sample for their songs, hence why the lyrics are so hilariously bad and don’t flow. It’s the one time where a song from Persona actually sounds bad. The composer usually makes really good tracks, plus later on he did the soundtrack for the second half of the first season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and his work on that was really good, but this is the one time where I think he didn’t do a great job unfortunately.

Toutetsu - MARETU ft. Hatsune Miku

I haven’t actually listened to this song from him. It’s a song with rock and chiptune music. I have no idea what it’s about, saw a translation and it seems to be about pain and suffering? But the lyrics are full of a lot of nouns rather than being about an actual subject. It’s super vague, but I do like the way it sounds.

Bohemian Rhapsody - William Shatner, John Wetton

I was looking up “bad song” playlists on Spotify and came across a lot, but there was this one for bad covers of songs, and there was a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by actor William Shatner and gosh it is so bad it’s good, but it’s mostly from how it’s not really sung at all and it’s just spoken. He also sounds really bored while singing it, which just adds onto how funny it is. I love songs that are like this; they don’t sound amazing and sound bad but make you laugh like a maniac throughout from its quality.

I usually listen to my Spotify playlist, of which I think of some songs are good and catchy.

Still listening to the same MARETU and Vocaloid songs. I wish he’d release a new Vocaloid song. In the meantime, I listened to my Discover Weekly playlist Spotify made for me and discovered a few new songs, including some J-pop and Vocaloid songs I don’t really listen to:

A lot of the Vocaloid songs used Hatsune Miku, unsurprisingly, but there were more songs in the playlist that I didn’t get onto. I am trying to expand my song tastes a bit, since I think I am pretty biased with my song tastes and I rarely listen to English music, so I also was also listening to Run-Around by Blues Traveler, Raspberry Beret by Prince, and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette again. I love those three songs. Usually I stick to listening to older English songs from the 90s, not that modern English songs are bad, I do like some, but I think some are too overplayed and get really old and tired fast from how much they frequently play, and I have a countless amount of Instagram reels to thank for how much they overplay songs, though I think I am sounding a tad bit hypocritical since I overplay a lot of my songs too…

I did listen to more Japanese songs alongside these, but I can’t find English translated names for them so I sadly can’t list them. It’s a pretty random song list and a lot of these are songs I’ve already heard, but I’m all about random and I don’t actually get tired of most of these.

However, Envy Baby is the newest song from the list I have heard for the first time. I really like the way it sounds, and GUMI is definitely one of my favorite Vocaloids. The song producer is pretty popular and trendy and I have heard some other songs he is known for, and Envy Baby was another notable song of his, but I actually never heard it until now and I really like how he has GUMI sound in his songs.

Also, I have heard Costolot’s Store before, but only once, so that and Envy Baby are kind of new songs to me. I am still trying to find newer songs to listen to but it’s really hard given I’m too used to my current song tastes and I do not know what other song genres and artists would be my taste.

I am listening to some of the same songs, but I have also been listening to RuLE by Ado.

Ado is an artist I am familiar with and have listened to in the past (her work on One Piece Film: Red and the song Odo being my favorites) but I haven’t listened to her in a while. Spotify randomly played this song once, and within the first few seconds of hearing the instrumental, I went “wait, is that MARETU’s music?” and I was so shocked I hadn’t known until now that MARETU did work on an Ado song, though she has had Vocaloid producers make music for her songs, so I kind of am not shocked she got a well-known Vocaloid artist to do work on it.

Aside from loving the chiptune music MARETU’s instrumental uses and how it reminded me of a couple of his Vocaloid songs, Ado’s singing is full of so much power and it’s impressive. Ado is pretty well known for her vocal range and how she can make her voice sound powerful, strong, and loud, and her voice has been often described as having a sort of angst to it. It’s what makes her really popular in Japan, and I can definitely see after hearing this song. It has got to be her most impressive song ever after hearing how much emotion she put into it with her voice.

ive also been really into beach bunny lately, their stuff is wonderful. i recommend their song weeds. also been listening to a lot of my favorites (taylor, troye sivan, chappell roan, rilo kiley, florence and the machine, mitski). also highly recommend the Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain. Its a masterpiece of an album, and listening to it is like watching a movie. However once you understand the story you’ll realize its in fact pretty gruesome and dark. anyways thats what my recent listening stuff has been :3

@OctolingKing13 Thank you for the song recommendations! I have been wanting to hear some new songs lately to pair with the same songs I've listened to. MARETU's instrumental on RuLE fitting well with Ado's powerful voice was enough to make me love the song immediately. Usually, in MARETU's songs, he uses Hatsune Miku to sing the song, and he doesn't have her voicebank tuned to sound loud or yell a lot (he usually has her tuned to sound quieter and lower-pitched or kinda higher pitched) so hearing Ado's stronger and more powerful voice in one of his instrumentals was cool and how she got her voice to fit in the instrumental.

The sounds in the instrumental (the chainsaw and gunshot sounds specifically) reminded me of another song MARETU did titled Pink. I haven't heard Ado sing Aishite Aishite Aishite though, but I probably will give that one a try. I think it's a cover of a really popular Vocaloid song.

A really nice song. The first video is a short version, which I like it, because the transition from one scene to the next feels so magical. I am impressed that modern technology can imitate this magic effect so well.

Amidst my Yo-kai Watch obsession, I am currently listening to the first anime opening song, Gera Gera Po Song by King Cream Soda.

I have technically heard this one before in the anime, but it was in the English dub, which had its lyrics in English instead of using the Japanese version, and the dubbed song was sung by different artists. Spotify doesn’t have the English dubbed version of the song (except for unofficial uploads on podcasts) but they luckily had the original Japanese version, so I took a listen to that.

It’s so catchy and I love the instrumental. I think the instrumental uses a sax? Gosh, I love how funky the sax sounds with the voice of one of the guys singing, and all the singers sound enthusiastic when singing. Probably going to be a song I’ll get obsessed with listening to alongside the many Vocaloid songs in my music library! There’s way more songs King Cream Soda sung for Yo-kai Watch, so I have those to listen to very soon!
