Battery life seems kinda eh, but otherwise this looks super cool. I have a fake no-brand GCN controller, I wonder if it would work with that as well since it uses pretty much the same mold

No thanks. My OG, wired GC controller is fine as it is. I don't need to take it apart just to modernized it with all that, thank you very much.

Do gamecube sticks drift? i have all OG pads, including my year 2 one and they all work fine. My wavebird is still doing fantastic and I bought that second hand from gamestop however many years it has been since I was in my late teens.

The Melee folks are gonna want to know if there’s any input lag, even if it’s just a couple of frames

I still have 2 GC controllers, I might upgrade one of them. It'd be great to use it on PC / Switch without adapters.

@Ryu_Niiyama I've never seen drift on any of the OGs, nor heard that they could drift at all. But maybe the newer ones released in the Wii U and Switch era for Smash players have the kind of modern stick technology that is susceptible to drift? idk...

I would have considered it if it was 2.4hz over Bluetooth.

@KidSparta Of course there is with Bluetooth. Bluetooth is laggy as hell for games no designed for it. The old Wavebirds have less lag than these will.

@RudyC3 Owner of a Smash for Wii U GC controller for almost 10 years. No drift beyond silly me turning on the system while the stick is not centered. Nothing that an unplug and replug fixes, I know there's a button combination to fix it but I always forget it.

Anyone knows if it's possible to change N64 controller's stick (NSO Official version) with the N64 8BitDo mod kit?

I've never experienced drift on any controllers ...until the Switch Joy-cons happened. And some of my controllers have seen literal decades of use. My Joy-cons sure haven't.

@RCGamer The mod kit is only for the OEM N64 controller, not for the NSO version. I think Wulff Den did a video where he modded the NSO one to replace the stick and it did not seem easy

@Banksie Like their other kits the charge port will reside where the controller cable originally exited the controller. Watch the installation tutorial video if you want to see it.

What's up with the crazy short battery life, is the old rumble tech really inefficient or something? I'm missing the days of 80hr battery life in the Wii U pro controller man, constantly having to recharge sounds painful

Man I wish they would do these for Dualshock 1 and 2...

@Ryu_Niiyama I can report at least one of my two wavebirds is, haven't tried with the other cause it's usually the "player 2" controller
haven't tried the button combo though, didn't know about it until today

According to 8BitDo's website, the cable hole will be occupied by an indicator LED.

Going off of this picture, and the placement of the charging port (at 1:10 into their video), it looks like you might have to open or cut a hole in the controller shell to access the charging port.

@shinesprite no, that hole is the charging port. the cable looks like a tiny stick, they also have it in their NES controllers DIY.

@Atariboy I’ve only done the N64 kit myself, and that was all done through the rumble pack. But yeah, i see it now - curious is you can get a usb c adapter

Would think those Mod Kits are best for low Quality original ones, that need a Facelift.

With a Dongle you can use the original one everywhere.

It is ok, the lack of one of the shoulder Buttons, the way too small D-Pad and small C Stick are the biggest Issues.

But the Controller is also nice for N64 Games, as they use the C Buttons to Walk.
I will always prefer the PS2 Controller, being an Evolution from the Super Nintendo.

The controller was made for cable usage. So the hardware is not designed to be power efficient. In the end this is Nintendos "fault" and not 8BitDo´s. I guess they added the biggest battery suitable and fitting to get this amount of battery life.
