@RubyCarbuncle yeah I also heard that in the Gamespot review, but they also said Nintendo was aware of the issue. If that’s what this is fixing then that’s great, since it was making me slightly wary of buying at launch.

@LadyCharlie It's likely just a small change, maybe the blur is a bit distracting and they lower it a bit perhaps.

I hope this or a future patch will fix frame rate issues since that seems to be the biggest complaint in reviews.
I know they should be able to stabilize it a bit like they've done with the original breath of the wild when in large fields of grass.

@Synplex They never improved it for the LA remake so I doubt they will here unless it gets a Switch 2 patch.

@Synplex unfortunately in programming there isn't a FixFrameRate Boolean that can be set to 1.

The frame rate issues are a symptom of Nintendo undershooting the hardware. BOTW worked because it was a largely deserted apocalyptic world. Pokemon was a disaster because it had complex graphics and was buzzing with life.

This game has complex graphics like Pokemon but is smaller in size. So it is manageable. But the best the hardware can deliver.

Let's hope the Switch 2 has modern and future proofed hardware.

Trust me I know there isn't, as a Unreal Blueprint scripter and VFX Artist myself (but I've seen amazing ppl fix things like this in patches).

The intentionally vague patch notes is basically Nintendo saying “mind your own business, i’m not telling you the details, ner, ner, na ner ner”.

They patched Link out of the game.

@littlegreenbob The only real issue with the Switch hardware is the relative slow ram. Which can be worked around by compression.

@Synplex It's unlikely they'll improve the frame rate issues much. In LA, the hitches occur when loading in new areas. The Switch's limited memory bandwidth can't keep up. The alternative to streaming would have been to have gameplay interrupted by loading screens.

Haven't played EOW yet, but I'm pretty sure it has the same problem.

The critics seem to love the game, but have all criticised the frame rate. Hopefully the patch goes some way to addressing that, as it really shouldn't be a problem for a 2D game built on what looks like at least a 5-year-old template in 2024.

I was surprised at the stutter right in front of Hyrule Castle at the start, surely that patch didn't fix anything yet. But apart from that, yeah, it's lovely!

Played 45 minutes unpatched. If anyone has problems with fps so far then I pity you.

Game starts really nicely. The tutorial aspects are light-touch and you can get active from the get-go.

Played for about an hour already. The game is simply FANTASTIC, what a way to start an adventure... Pure Zelda. Love it.

However, the frame drops are quite noticiable. It's pretty unstable outside, which is a pity... I hope they release a patch to cap the fps at 30, we wouldn't have any problem with that, really. This game deserves to be running well!

Framerate made me wait until it's fixed.

I read elsewhere that the update makes it so the game, rather than dipping erratically when it goes below 60, will instead lock to 30fps until it's able to achieve 60 again. This is a solution, but I'd really prefer Nintendo start including options in their games. I'd just cap it to 30 full-time if I could.

Going to wait for the inevitable cartridge revision now before I buy.
