Poll: What Is Your Favourite Game In The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection?

This collection gonna make on the best fighting games list on Switch?

Marvel vs Capcom 1 has always been my favorite. I do love MVC2 but MVC1 has always just stood out for me. The game in this collection I’ve been playing the most is actually X-Men vs Street Fighter. Played quite a lot of online matches with this one too. It feels so nice not having to deal with the PS1 version of that game.

I'd say best is definitely MvC2, worst is clearly either Children or the Atom or Marvel vs. Street Fighter, but they're all quite fun.

No, I am waiting for the physical switch release (which is soooooooo far away in November). I do not even have an online membership.

MVC2 was part of the Dreamcast rotation in 2000 / 2001. That, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, amd Capcom Vs. SNK. As for arcade play... CotA. I had an N64 during that era and did not get any of the Capcom fighting ports I thought we would with the perfect D-Pad and 6 button placement on the controller. 😞

I can't say which one is truly my fav since I don't have the collection yet, so I was here to check the results. I figured MvC2 was the most popular and I was easily right, but I'm surprised to see that Punisher is somehow higher than the entire rest of the collection. I'm very curious to hear everyone's choices and explain why they are either said person's fav game and/or most played in the collection, because the explanation makes the choice much more interesting.

@N00BiSH Do not worry, The Wazzler keeps his reign to the PC version, where you can actually put the "fun" in "refund." The Switch community is safe

The punisher and mvc 2 is the best game in this collection I think 😃

I'm personally a big MVC1 guy. Has the best presentation/gameplay imo even if the roster is a bit small

When I get my physical copy mvc2 will be my most played I suppose. It’s no surprise that’s most people’s favorite. I’d be curious if mvc3 had been included where it’d fall. 2s most people’s preference but I may have liked 3s roster a bit more.

Definitely the first Marvel vs. Capcom. Great soundtrack, balance roster, great tag team mechanics, better graphics, awesome lineup of assist trophy, stages unique to a few characters, and interesting character endings. I love MvC1. I like (not love) MvC2 too but not as much as MvC1, many characters lost their moves, there are no character endings, it had worst graphics than MvC1, the game is essentially just a barebone arcade mode with no endings, the 3-vs-3 mechanic is decent, using 4-button instead of the familiar 6-button setup makes the game feel off, the music are boring and the stages had no tie to any characters except Amingo, Ruby, and Sonson, three characters that are hardly memorable and all stages are so barren with hardly any spectators or attractions at all. The only saving grace MvC2 had is the 56 playable characters otherwise I probably wouldn't bother with it.

Don't feel too bad. I once saved $80 of lawn mowing money over a summer, and spent it on a SNES copy of Rise of the Robots.

@Serpenterror it's still a blast, but most of those are my problems with it. The presentation is so weird compared to the others here. The music and stages are my biggest gripes...

X-Men Children of the Atom has always been my favorite. I didn’t get MvC2 until very late (xbox version) so my arcade and playing as it was out memories are with X-men, MVC and CvSNK2. Storm was not in MVC so while I played that in the arcade a lot it wasn’t my favorite fighter by any means and the roster in that game was terrible. MvC2 has always been more important to me for watching others play rather than my own personal preference.

Unless they're gonna double dip, I wish they had saved The Punisher for an actual Marvel Beat 'Em Up Collection.

Punisher is an excellent beat-em-up and a definite highlight here. It's popularity here comes a bit from never having a home version before, unlike the rest of this collection. As for the one-on-one fighters, X-Men vs. Street Fighter is my favorite of this bunch. Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is excellent as well, but the roster is a mixed bag. Marvel Super Heroes is also great, especially if you want a break from the tag-team action and want a straightforward three-round setup. It's a good bit harder on default. I do like how it uses the Infinity Gauntlet saga as the setting and it's cool having to beat Dr. Doom and Thanos. The other games are fine. MvC1 is good, but I didn't love all its changes. MvC2 is well liked, but I hate those backgrounds, so I don't play that one.

I’ll be grabbing the physical of this once it releases. I have the most fondest memories of playing a ripped Japanese copy of MVC2 on the Dreamcast back in the day

Marvel vs Capcom is just perfect for me. It's crazy but not the too crazy level that is Marvel vs Capcom 2. Everything just blends perfect together, look, feel, design, music.

I'm enjoying this collection but I was quite surprised by The Punisher. It's short but is genuinely enjoyable ( granted I had to lower the difficulty because you know, it's an arcade game).

I also like the simpler inputs for moves. I don't usually use them but whenever I use Cyclops uppercut move, I usually accidentally do an optic sweep so the L+forward input is usual too. Also I finally figured how to pull off a charge input too so hurrah for me

@sdelfin The Punisher did come out on the Mega Drive, not a bad conversation and probably comparable to the 16-but Street Fighter releases. Trouble is, it didn’t have the popularity of Final Fight or the playability of Streets of Rage 2, so passed many people by.

Well I have fond memories of Marvel Superheroes and X men Vs Streetfighter as I played both extensively in the arcades back in the day but I think it is probably Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on Sega Dreamcast as I played that religiously too, LOL.

@JohnnyMind I’m not very good at fighters either but casually enjoyed street fighter, mortal Kombat, smash bros, and soul caliber. Smash and soul caliber are probably my favorites but both of those games were kindve like big sumo matches for me where I relied on ring outs. If it had been included like it was in the mvc arcade 1 up cabinet, X-men mutant apocalypse would have been my most played no doubt about it. It was an excellent beat em up and featured some button combo moves like Ryus uppercut for wolverine and his fireball for cyclops optic blast. Marvel war of the gems would have also been cool as it’s much the same game but with other marvel characters.

MSH vs SF is the one for me. The older games feel a bit less fluid while the later ones feel a bit confusing. And I love that intro narration. Kinda sad that the "Welcome to the adventure!" insert coin vocal is missing.

They're all really interesting games! 90s Capcom is the best Capcom. My favorite is X-Men vs Street Fighter. It's fun and ridiculous and not as overwhelming as MvC2. I'm also really fascinated by the deeper mechanics of MSH.

I really like Children of the Atom’s presentation. The animations are also very smooth, nearly of Street Fighter 3’s quality!

@shoeses They can't though cause most of the other MARVEL beat em ups/action games are made by other devs such as Konami, Sega, Data East, Acclaim, and LJN. Capcom only made I believe 3 MARVEL beat em ups: The Punisher, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, and MARVEL Super Heroes in War of the Gems. The Uncanny X-Men, X-Men / Spider-Man: Arcade's Revenge, and the Spider-Man / Venom games as well the Wolverine games were all made by LJN and Acclaim while Konami made the X-Men Arcade Game and Data East made the pre-render Avengers in Galactic Storm arcade fighting game. I believe Activision own the later 3D X-Men fighting games and Ultimate Alliance games while Sega pretty much made all the X-Men games on Sega Genesis, Master System, and Game Gear. There's a Silver Surfer game, some Fantastic Four games, a Hulk game, an Iron Man game, and a Howard the Duck game but those I'm not sure who made them as I don't like any of those heroes games since most of them are horrible to play.

As much as I like MvC2, the original MvC still has a special place for me. Perhaps its nostalgia, but the first time i saw that game and that you could play as Strider (who looked so much cooler than his original sprite) along with the likes of Morrigan and Ryu, i lost my mind. I even remember going on a field trip with a summer day camp to an arcade/entertainment center, and when all the other kids were playing the ticket redemption games, I saw they had Marvel vs. Capcom and went to play that against some of the bigger kids. I can't remember if I won or lost though...

@Inaroomalone That's right. Thanks. I have a tendency to forget about that one. As a port, it's okay. It does a lot right, but it's also lacking in a lot of ways. Some of that is typical of ports at the time, but some things simply could have been done better, like the color use. One of the biggest problems I had with it when I played it was it was missing the combo variations that end with throws which are a huge part of crowd control in that game. The arcade version is so much better in this case that it really is a great thing that it's finally available.

@SmaggTheSmug Yeah, MSH vs. SF may be the sweet spot in the collection. It feels a bit more refined and maybe more forgiving than X-Men vs. Street Fighter, aside from the boss fight, but it also feels just right in terms of the gameplay. While MvC1 is still very good, I didn't think the additions made it a better game. While X-Men vs. Street Fighter is a bit less refined, it's not by much and is worthwhile if you like the roster(which I do prefer).
