Apart from Splatoon 3, Nintendo has rolled out a brand new update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe today. Yes, after several months of silence, Version 3.0.3 is now available to download.

On face value, this update doesn't mention much. According to Nintendo's official patch notes, "issues" have been resolved to improve the gameplay. This update has also seen the game jump from Version 3.0.1 to 3.0.3!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Ver. 3.0.3 (Released September 11, 2024)

General

- Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.

Dataminer 'OatmealDome' has shed some light on what exactly is going on behind the scenes in this latest update. It seems it's tied to "a security flaw in the game's netcode":

"The version 3.0.3 update fixes a security flaw in the game's netcode. Only a few lines of the code were modified (appears to be a fix for a buffer overflow). There were no changes to the graphics, sounds, game balance, etc."

Nintendo previously rolled out its final wave of DLC for the game in November last year, boosting the total amount of tracks to 96. More characters were also added to the roster in these updates.
