Originally released way back in 1993 for the good old Game Boy, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has always been a little bit of a curio in the history of the long-running Zelda franchise. Originally planned as a straight-up port of the Super Nintendo’s monstrously successful A Link To The Past, this very first portable Zelda experience soon morphed into entirely its own thing. With its side-scrolling dungeon sections, ability to jump and host of bizarre cameos from other Nintendo franchises, it struck a new, slightly off-kilter tone. It also boldly transferred the action from Hyrule to an all-new setting, jettisoning franchise staples such as Princess Zelda herself, Ganon and the Triforce to focus on a completely new and refreshingly philosophical narrative for our tiny adventurer. Now, it's getting a new chance to shine thanks to a Switch remake.
After a majestically revamped opening cutscene which sees a ferocious storm tear our hero’s ship to pieces, we join Link as he’s washed ashore on the mysterious island of Koholint. Coming to, he finds himself in the care of a young girl, Marin, and her bumbling goofball dad, Tarin. Quickly setting off to retrieve his trusty sword, he’s informed by a wise Owl that the only way to leave Koholint is to collect and play the Eight Instruments of The Sirens, hidden in dungeons across the island, in order to rouse the great Wind Fish from its slumber inside a huge egg perched atop Mount Tamaranch. And so begins our adventure.
Where the Switch’s other Zelda title, 2017's Breath of the Wild, revels in the wide-open nature of its enormous world – casting off the trademark gated progress of older entries in the franchise in favour of a more modern approach, unshackling players and giving them access to everything from the outset – Link’s Awakening absolutely thrives in its more traditional ways. This is a game all about slowly unlocking the means to your progression, amassing the tools required to do the job and the early hours are, in classic Zelda fashion, spent figuring out how to remove the various objects that impede your traversal of Koholint before getting down and dirty with its bigger bad guys. The puzzles, secrets and dungeons are amongst the very best in the entire series, and, if you’re one of those people who felt like Breath of the Wild gave you a little too much freedom at the cost of feeling a little less Zelda-like, you’ll be right at home snuggling back into this more classic mould.
What was once a monochromatic wonder when it originally released on Game Boy has, 26 years later, been transformed into one of the Switch’s most unique and beautiful looking games; a thoroughly modern reimagining which transforms the island of Koholint and its all of its weird and wonderful inhabitants into a beautiful little tilt-shifted toy-box absolutely dripping in tiny new details and atmosphere, ready for you to rediscover or – if you’re really lucky – experience for the very first time.
Fans of the original game who’ve played it to death in its previous guises on Game Boy or the Game Boy Color will, for the most part, know exactly what to expect as they set out on their journey through this remastered version. The map is identical, NPCs mill about in the same locations as before, conversations are almost word-for-word the same and – if you were a master of the game back in the day – you’ll still be able to speed-run your way through this version. However, as with any remaster, this is all about breathing new life into something that we all know and love and, in this regard, it’s hard to see how Nintendo and Grezzo could have done a better job.
This is a supreme overhaul, not just in terms of the stunning new graphics and art-style, but in the reworked score that accompanies them, with the old plinky-plonk Game Boy instruments – which were quite something for their time – replaced by the majesty of an almost fully orchestrated re-recording of familiar old tunes. It’s often surprisingly emotional stuff, revisiting these magical places you’d long forgotten, rediscovering some hidden passage or other; latent memories suddenly reawaken in your mind as this music, so familiar but also now so new and grandiose, takes flight in the background.
Indeed, making your way across this brand new Koholint, all the way from the now sparkling white sands of Toronbo Shores – the sun reflecting off the transparent water that laps against its beaches – to the Mysterious Forest, enshrouded here in beautifully atmospheric fog effects and onwards to Goponga Swamp, Ukuku Prairie and the Yarna Desert, you’ll constantly be wowed by just how much more alive everything feels.
Enemies have seen a host of revisions to how they look, and in some places behave, with minuscule details adding enormously to their personalities, giving them a physicality that imbues the moment-to-moment combat and dungeon traversal with a whole new level of satisfying weightiness. Buzz Blobs wobble around delightfully, a sort of semi-translucent jelly with eyes wrapped in electric shockwaves, beautifully animated spiders scurry out of their holes to attack you whilst heavily armoured Moblins and Darknuts will often now require that you parry their attacks in order to open them up to counters, adding a nice little tactical layer to the combat.
Speaking of combat, the revamped boss battles look incredible, some of them also playing out in slightly different ways than you might be expecting if you’re an old-hand at the game, and the dungeons that you take on in your quest to recover those all-important instruments benefit no end from the new level of detail and fidelity, in how they’re lit and in the highly detailed textures from which they’re now built, each one now a much more atmospheric and absorbing affair.
Of course, it’s not all aesthetic changes in this new version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. One of the most oft-criticised aspects of the original game was the need to constantly switch out gear and equipment due to the lack of buttons on the Game Boy. The Switch does away with this by having your sword and shield assigned permanently to their own buttons, whilst gear such as bombs, arrows and the Roc’s Feather can be allocated to either X or Y buttons as you see fit. Your Pegasus Boots, once you unlock them, can be activated by holding down the left shoulder button, while the Power Bracelet activates automatically, and it all makes for a much less stop-start, more streamlined affair.
Another nice little quality of life addition is the ability to add pins to your map, in much the same way as you did in Breath of the Wild, making it easy to remember where an item of interest or place you wish to revisit is located. There are empty bottles to find that you can store fairies in for use when you need them most, and the compass now has a handy on-screen indicator which flashes up when you’re near a treasure chest, making it that little bit easier to notice when you’re too busy being distracted by a puzzle or battered by an enemy. There are also more hidden collectables than featured in the original version of the game, with more heart fragments and secret seashells to discover – as well as a handful of new warp points.
Moving from area to area also no longer requires any sort of transition, as was the case on the humble Game Boy. Instead, the island is rendered in one big beautiful, seamless whole, and as a result, moving around the various locations feels like an altogether more modern affair. Koholint's map, which still reveals itself bit by bit as you stumble across new areas, seems so small in comparison to most adventure games today but it has depth; it's a cleverly designed place stuffed full of surprises and secrets. Traversing from one side of this game's world to the other may only take a matter of minutes, but there are countless hours of fun to be had for the completionist here.
The new additions continue when you visit Dampe the Gravedigger at his shack. As you make your way through the various dungeons in the game you’ll unlock dungeon templates and, upon visiting Dampe, he’ll feed these templates into his "Chamber Dungeon Creator", tasking you with making your way through a bunch of tutorial-style challenges before allowing you to freely put together your own dungeons, which you’ll then have to successfully make your way through to earn rewards. It’s not exactly Mario Maker: Zelda Edition, but, as long as you’re not expecting to create your own enormous, bespoke Zelda dungeons from the ground up, it’s a fun enough distraction which we’re sure some people will get a lot of extra value from.
Dampe's shack also serves as the location from which you can make use of any of your Legend of Zelda series amiibo. Tapping your amiibo here enables you to unlock some special dungeon templates to use in Dampe's dungeon creator – you can also then save your creations to the amiibo you're using. The Link's Awakening amiibo will also allow you to summon Shadow Link into your dungeons, the malevolent figure hunting you down until you take him out for a sweet rupee reward.
In terms of the performance of this remaster, everything looks absolutely glorious in both docked and handheld modes, but it does, unfortunately, suffer from a little slowdown in certain areas. We first noticed it around Toronbo Shores where there are quite a few Octoroks and Sea Urchins on your screen at the same time and it does seem to be a problem that rears its head for the most part in heavily-populated locations. It’s far from being any sort of a deal-breaker, but it’s a shame as you can feel it in combat from time to time as the game goes from buttery smooth to struggling ever so slightly to keep up.
However, small technical hitch aside, this is a phenomenal remake of one of the best entries in the entire Zelda series. The new aesthetic adds a whole new layer of life to characters and locations that we know and love, whilst also absolutely fitting in with the narrative at play, and the little quality of life improvements and changes here and there make the whole thing feel thoroughly modern. The puzzles, dungeons, side-quests and boss battles all feel as good as they did back in the day and remain amongst the strongest in the franchise.
Whether you’re getting re-acquainted with Koholint and its wonderfully kooky cast of characters or are a newcomer embarking on your awakening for the first time, there’s a ton to look forward to here. Battling through one of the awesome dungeons, grabbing a plush Yoshi from the Trendy Game, chomping through Moblins with your pet Chain Chomp, hitting up Granpa Ulrira for some tips when you’re totally stumped or just playing some Ocarina with Marin before taking in the view down at the beach, this is a game still every bit as magical as it ever was. Oh, and yes, you can still get yourself zapped by the shopkeeper if you're that way inclined. THIEF!
Conclusion
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was a technical marvel when it first arrived on the scene back in 1993. Easily one of the great Game Boy releases, it was a first bash at a handheld Zelda that took the formula as perfected by A Link to the Past, jammed it all onto a tiny portable console and, somehow, managed to make it all work while adding a host of new features and concepts to the mix. This beautiful Switch remake rebuilds all of this from the ground up in fine style. It adds modern conveniences, a dungeon creator, amiibo support and lots of little quality of life improvements whilst infusing every single square inch of Koholint – every secret passage, Piranha, Pokey and Pig Warrior – with a level of detail and depth that totally reinvigorates both its timeless story and classic Zelda gameplay for a whole new generation of gamers.

Oooo, almost a 10, so close. Shame about the frame rate issues. The game looks so good that I wonder if they could even patch that out.
I wish I could wipe my memory of playing this as a kid so it could be new again. I can't see myself buying this game yet, unfortunately.
Need,want x x x x can’t wait til 2moz
Good solid 8/10 then, good stuff.
The only con is frame rate issues? That's a win for me!
Not sure if I'll get around to playing it, but it looks really nice.
Man I cannot wait until tomorrow! I can get over some frame rate issues, I'm not a speed runner or an elitist by any means lol
Just finished the 3rd (slime) dungeon in this. Its amazing but I wish I hadn't revisited the DX version so recently. Played it at beginning of the year. The Switch version is almost identical (so far) to the original and it seems a tad stale knowing everything that happens.
The ability to reassign more buttons would also have helped. L and ZL BOTH do the dash and R and ZR both do the shield. It helps not having to assign Sword, Shield and feather separately like in the GB one but the ability to reassign the 2 (wasted) shoulder buttons would have been better too.
ALSO ... the CRANE "GAME" is SSSOOO INFURIATING. I swear I line it up perfectly but that pesky shell always slips out. The ability to save right before playing the crane game though means you can cheat (without losing rupees) if you don't get anything ...
One for the future for me when I can find a price I feel is closer to where it should be for a Gameboy reskin, but I hope the rest of you enjoy thoroughly over the weekend.
I played the original on the 3DS VC. I think it was a GBC version of it but I really did like it. I’ll pick up this remake eventually.
I still wish there was a way to remove the blurs on the edge. Octopath did this too and I hated it. I know it is just my personal preference but I would like to admire the game on my 75" without the game having a blurry border.
I've got the limited edition coming tomorrow and I'm looking forward to playing it, but if I'm honest I think this type of game really could have done with not being an almost exact replica of the original. Capcom showed how you can bring back a classic in Resident Evil 2 that not only feels very familiar to returning players but also new by making some very clever changes.
Looking forward to giving this a go, though it’s gonna have to wait. For the first time in a long time, I’m not getting a Zelda game at launch. I’ve got way too much to finish first.
I was pretty suspicious when they announced it and then when information about pricing came out and then when I heard that it wouldn't have much new material. But now I think I'm kind of convinced. Just need some more time to eliminate the "kind of" and buy it
@Fake-E-Lee You are in for a treat.
I'll probably get this with my cold coins. I have $20 worth of them at the moment!
Spoiler for anyone who missed the original:
I can't wait to see Kirby in this! 😂
As someone who could never get into the original, I'm stoked to play this remake. My only problem is that this weekend is so busy for me, I probably won't be able to play it for a little while!
If you're remaking a 26 year old game and charging full price for it, you've got to make sure the frame rate is OK.
Dearie me.
@gamer89 They had to build everything up from scratch, so I can understand the asking price. This looks like pretty good work they did here.
Let’s be honest, there was no way this was gonna be bad or even average. Nintendo always deliver on these games. Can’t wait for Luigi mansion 3 now. Great titles this year for sure.
@Fake-E-Lee Same. So excited!
I have it downloaded and I'm hoping to get stuck into tonight when I finish work. £40 for digital on CD Keys. I've never played past the opening hour and that was years ago so it will be mostly all new for me. Are Nintendo titles available to play from midnight?
already preordered and will pick it up tomorrow.
Looking forward to experiencing this for the first time. Frame rate isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it is a shame that it crops up here. There were frame-rate issues in Breath of the Wild too, but it was manageable. Can't wait to play the next "new" Zelda game!
@gamer89 Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think this game had more work put into it than the other ones you listed.
I still need to pick up Spyro at some point.
Is the game extended at all, or is the playtime of the OG about the same as we will be getting here?
Is the frame rate issue so bad that this deserves a lower score than the original Game Boy version?
@Chunkboi79 The idea of the blur is that it "creates depth."
Can’t wait to play this. I have to wait a few days after purchasing to get the time it needs to get stuck in properly.
$60 (plus tax ) is a bit steep though but it will keep me motivated to play the beheckers out of it.
Doing house cleaning and shopping today. Tomorrow, when I get off from work it's ZELDA WEEKEND!!!
I'm pretty confident that the frame rate issues will be patched soon.
cant wait to play this!! I wonder how many hours of gameplay this will provide. thats not mentioned in the review
My copy arrived this morning. I think I'll save it for the weekend.
Ok so I saw it in GAME today for 50 quid, the review doesn't say how many hours of play so I was wondering if it is worth it? I mean, at £60, BOTW was a STEAL as I sunk 200 hours into the first play through and am now doing it all again.
The game does look beautiful, but it would be even better with a price adapted to what it is: a remake. Look at Crash Team Racing. It is a remake and costs less than expected(at least for me).
I'll stick to BOTW and potentisl BOTW 2, because I like that I am not able to see what awaits me. What I'm trying to see, here, in Link's awakening, you can see more of the things of what may await you, whereas in BOTW, you run(or ride) and all of a sudden, behind the hill you just climbed/walked/rode there is s guardian or whatever. Looking at this game, sure, it's an eye candy, but didn't evoke that feeling of adventure/wonder as BOTW did. Of course, I haven't played the game, so I may be wrong. But with that price tag, I probably won't.
Anyways, much fun to all of you people who will play it
@kepsux Yeah, I still don't like it lol but on your original comment it sounds like this game is basically a 1 to 1 remake outside of the dungeon creator this is coming from GameXplain.
I'll grab it eventually when the price goes down.
I get that it's been remastered/remade but it should be maybe 40$ tops. I've never played it so it should be fun.
Too bad about the framerate. N really really needs to get in gear on a switch 2.
@Franklin totally agreed. Why release a game with such frames issues in the first place? They should've waited a bit longer with releasing it and focusing on the patch. So lets wait till there's a patch for stable fps... that this such game has frames trouble is beyond me. An other proof Switch aint that strong. Period
I've played it so many times before, but this is still a day one purchase for me. There's a lot of nostalgia in play, but it's also a genuinely great Zelda game - quite remarkable when you consider the obvious limitations the GameBoy had. Looking forward to this one!
Busy with Astral Chain. I think I’m going to wait on this one until it comes down in price.
@gamer89
I think nintendo is greedier. Just hides it behind "family friendly" wording.
Sure, they make great games, but they are rarely discounted, and the ported are full priced too.
Too bad I like the switch so much that I support/feed that greed of theirs. Oh well, weak character I guess. 😃
What's the point in pre-purchase, can you download it to your console but not playing it, or what.
'Some frame rate issues when things get busy onscreen' doesn't indicate constant dips, so it's really not something worth getting overly upset about.
For those waiting for the price to drop, you will be lucky if it drops by more than £10. Zelda titles tend to hold their value. Maybe there will be a Switch equivalent of Nintendo Selects one day.
Whilst i've never gotten around to playing the original, i've always found this game to be the most interesting out of the 2D Zelda entries.
Gonna give this remake a try.
@Chunkboi79
I already have Links Awakening pre-installed. I wonder how the Switch version will be compared with the 3DS version I beat? I too am excited about this but, I have a feeling I will be playing Breath of the Wild much more. I reset master mode, I wanted to play that again.
We all knew it would be good, still not going to pay that price though so I shall wait.
Of course it has that score, it's Zelda hehe. Personally, I'm missingg some new stuff that explains the price... And a patch that improves the framerate.
I will get it eventually, of course, but not now with so many awesome games coming out.
I don't get it, why you want to pre-purchase and pre-install a game when you can't play it yet. Well each one to their own.
Aaaaaargh!!!! My poor poor eyes! it dips a couple of frames!!!!! Unplayable mess for a simple "hit the 3d button and push it out" game!!!! It's not a 9!!!! etc etc...
In other news, sod the crybabies, I'm getting this.
The internet consensus clocks this game at around 13-15 hours. I'll wait for a sale.
@Zach777 Your prediction came true.
Come on, NintendoLife. If users are able to guess your scoring and bullet points before the review is even out, you need to work on your predictability and bias.
The choice of playing in hero mode right from the start makes me wanna buy this game. Good job Nintendo.
I always have trouble getting myself to play remakes/remasters if I have played the original rendition-- I had the same issue with Samus Returns. I can clearly see they are absolutely STUNNING remakes, but I know I'll hit that inevitable "been there, done that" feeling despite the trip down memory lane. Since I never played the original Resident Evil 1, REmake was the first time I played it, so that's different-- If only I had never played LA and RoS argh lol!
PS: I'll probably breakdown and rent it through GameFly
Haven’t played the original. Come on postman
@kepsux Dungeon creator aside it's the exact same game, same length.
Oh the hype
Can not wait to replay this.
Never played the original so this should at least feel fresh. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of 2D Zelda though, I found ALBW painfully dull and LTTP is the only one I can really stick.
Yes ordered, it's coming to my home too!
This is my entire next week at least. Can't wait.
@Eagle9
So you have it downloaded and ready to play on release day and don't have to wait what can be quite a long time depending on your internet connection.
I'll get this, but not now. Too many other games I haven't played at all before.
@MeloMan Honestly, I thought Samus Returns sucked. They made so many changes to the combat that it lost its simplicity. Now that I know that LA is a 1:1 remake with quality of life changes, I can confidently buy it.
Would buy it but not at 60...
I can't stop comparing it to BOTW and thinking they can't be the same prices.
It looks amazing but sadly I'll have to wait a week or so before I pick up a copy 😕. I've spent too much money on games already this month. This and Dragon Quest XI S will be my next pick ups for Switch most definitely.
Another game to where that voucher I have is sitting there teasing me haha.
There’s no way this game is a 9 or higher. This game is a 6.5-7 at best. Frame rate issues galore, complete changes to the mini games breaking the experience, Dampe dungeons are cumbersome and don’t really add to the experience, combat has changed for the worst(you have to parry with most enemies now), seashell system has completely changed so now you need to collect a lot more.
Basically, Nintendo and Grezzo artificially lengthened a game known for being short at the expense of gameplay, nostalgia, and profit.
They could’ve made an enhanced remake and charged half as much. But decided to be greedy and go for the full throttle and in doing so created this atrocity.
See Metroid: Zero Mission for an example on how to lengthen and remake a game and get it right......
I wish I hadn’t played the color version two years ago. Maybe some day I’ll want to replay it, but it’s the same game and I’d rather play a new game instead.
I can't wait for tomorrow even though I'm not completely sure if I'll be picking up a copy. I'm still having a debate inside my head whether I think it's too expensive or not. I love the game and would like to experience it soon but I could always pop the original cart on my gba(sp) or play it on the 3DS VC and wait for a price drop. But then again, I'm too exited for the new artstyle.
One thing bothering me is how can a game of this sort have framerate issues? We all know the switch is not a powerhouse like a fancy gaming PC or xonex/ps4pro. But this game doesn't look like it needs that much horsepower to run well. Nintendo themselves got BOTW run on switch well and Panic Button did some stuff to get Wolfenstein on the platform, how come this game has performance issues?
My kids played the hell out of this but it's new to me as I was busy being mom.
I know there a lot of nay sayers here, but I'm excited for it. Getting it physical tomorrow along with Ni No Kuni. Next week is DQXIS! October is Luigi's Masion.
Think I'm set til Animal Crossing in March. Won't mind being snowed in this winter.
Gonna pick up my copy this week. I’m so excited for this game. The frame rate issues do sound like a problem, but it shouldn’t bother me too much during my game experience. Hopefully a patch is on the way. But this game looks absolutely beautiful. I’m definitely excited for it.
I’m excited to play this on my 60 inch tv
Hm.... 🤔
I still unsure to like this Chibi size Link in very adorable looking and environments since i'm not a fan of Zelda games.
I need to watch more gameplay from Youtube first.
When it goes on sale I will definitely be picking this up. I hope that Nintendo will consider giving the Oracle games this kind of treatment hopefully for a fairer starting price.
9/10 is pretty good. Great review.
The frame rate issues can always be patched, similar to Breath of the Wild's frame rate drops around launch.
Can't wait for my copy to arrive tomorrow!
“A truly beautiful remake of one of the Zelda games”? Are you missing a word there? Perhaps... one of the BEST or MOST BELOVED Zelda games?
This is my favorite Zelda, and framerate issues don't bother me at all, so this is all splendid to my ears!
@Anti-Matter
If ever there was a Zelda game for people, who aren't strictly fans of the series, that game is Link's Awakening. Recommended wholeheartedly.
Though I haven't played this new version yet.
A great review, as expected! It looks utterly charming and I never played the original on my Gameboy long, long ago.
But there is simply too much to play right now, though, so this will have to wait. I imagine next year at some point I'll be ready to buy and play.
What a fantastic game!
We are all in for a threat Tomorrow!
I liked the DX version in the 90s, I reckon I'll like the remade version now. Maybe if it sells well they'll consider this treatment to the Oracle Games
Genuinely shocked this isn’t a 10. Though from surfing the web, seems everyone loves this remake but there’s a lotta hate for the dungeon maker (and some frame rate quibbles).
I SOMEHOW never played the original, and the one I got from a cousin a couple Christmas’ ago (it was lying around his room and he asked me if I wanted it and I said hell to the power of yes) had a busted save battery (remember those?). So I am ECSTATIC to play this, but may wait til the holidays to rekindle that ol’ “Nintendo under the tree” feel as an adult.
@XBontendo those are Capcom properties, right? Regardless, would LOVE any and all Zelda remakes on Switch (and those would be next on my list).
My copy arrived this morning and have to say I'm enjoying it more than BOTW
I just wish they'd have done more with the Dampe Dungeon builder. Maybe have unique pieces/rooms you have to collect, with the ability to SHARE THEM ONLINE. The article isn't clear, but all the dungeon pieces you collect are from dungeons you've previously cleared, correct? Just a little more work here on their part...just a few unique rooms with some unique attributes. I don't know why Nintendo cuts stuff off like this. Very excited to play this tomorrow anyway.
@rdm22 Nintendo owns those, Capcom was hired on to make the games, not the properties. Maybe they get some kind of royalty though?
This will be fun
@Anti-Matter It’s a great game but link has a sword and he stabs his enemies. It’s brutal 😉
@rdm22 In part, yeah. Doesn't make it impossible, just a little more teamwork is needed
I didnt read the full review, but (if im not mistaken) NintendoLife didn't mention anything about the price.
I feel like Nintendo games almost always get a pass just because it's Nintendo. It's much easier to mention pricing when it's a third-party game.
So if there's nothing about pricing included in the review, I highly suggest you insert something in there. The game should have been $40 to $50 at most.
@Dang69 @XBontendo
Oh, that’s interesting! There’s hope, then! I would definitely pony up for those, too.
@gamer89 A lot of people praise Nintendo for "not being evil" with microtransactions and whatnot....
But what most people don't realize is that Nintendo is still sucking you dry through other means — mainly by rarely dropping their prices, and by overpricing everything to begin with. People just fail to look at these things because they seem more acceptable than microtransactions.
Brand loyalty is real, and it sucks.
@rdm22 Though honestly....I just want an isometric Kirby game using this engine in this style, but....if they could weave the Oracle games together....
@Dang69 wow that’s an appealing pitch! Would love that, too.
@BarefootBowser I didnt say that the mere mention should affect the score or anything. It's just worth mentioning their two cents on it, since this is clearly a hot debate among gamers. But again, mentioning it would have no impact on the final score. It's just acknowledgement, is all.
@Samwise7
Smiths sell it for 40.
@personauser93
The articles leading up to the release basically gave away everything needed. Media covered about 80% of this game just in previews and stuff. Sad but true.
Still going to thoroughly enjoy this during the weekend.
@diablo2 .
I think many of us realise the pricing issues re: Nintendo. Those saying they'll wait to get LA when it's on sale will have a long wait, with Ninty's history of reducing prices.
Unfortunately they make the games/consoles I love playing.
@gamer89 Another gameboy game that was completely re-imagined with new maps, mechanics, excellent 3D - Samus Returns - $40.
@diablo2 The price is listed on the page, just like other games. And in every other article's comment section. And at the retailer. If it's not important to the score, it doesn't really need to be hashed out again in the review of the game. That's just my opinion, anyway
@XBontendo
Are you talking about OoS/OoA? Capcom owns NOTHING from this.🤣🤣🤣 How do you come to this silly conclusion, that Capcom owns anything from these games?
@k8sMum You are right on the eShop. Don’t expect a price drop there. And you are right on the big N, Mario and Zelda games rarely drop in price (until a selects version is re-released).
However, this may be the exception if physical sales don’t keep selling. Retailers may drop the price. I could also see Black Friday sales. And as people finish the game, we should be able to find a lot of used copies.
@MrBlacky Because they're the developer and their name pops up front and center when you pop in the game.
If that's not how it works, by mistake but you don't have to be condescending like that.
My copy will be here tomorrow morning! I cannot wait!
For those complaining about the price, the game boy color version is cheap as hell on the 2/3ds eshop. If you don’t need the new stuff, just play the old.
@XBontendo
Okay, sorry. But you know, that Nintendo owns the Zelda brand?
I love the original, but definitely not picking this remake, too few changes for 60bucks.
can i play at midnight tonight?
@gamer89 it’s kind of refreshing that there are some people, like you, here that can agree that the game is priced too high for what it is. I honestly don’t understand why people get so angry about such comments. Wouldn’t everyone like to purchase it at a lower cost??
I’m going to wait until it hits $40. Which I’m sure I’ll see around Black Friday, or in the beginning of January when everyone is selling their copy on eBay or amazon after realizing the game is on the short side when it comes to content.
@k8sMum maybe a two or three years when Nintendo rolls out their selects promotion. Or Black Friday when retailers are trying to push for sales, or buying it used on the internet.
@LUIGITORNADO
Wasn't Zelda - Link's Awakening DX the same price (or even slightly more expensive) than the original Link's Awakening?🤔
This seems like a very solid effort. I haven't pre-ordered it but will pick it up soon, likely for Christmas. The slight framerate issues will hopefully/surely be patched by then
Smyths disptahced my LE yesterday via Hermes and arrived today.
@MrBlacky Yes, of course I know that. But Marvel owns the Spiderman brand, and still has to work with Sony to make movies. Copyright law is weird and I don't know the finer details of the agreement between Capcom & Nintendo regarding the Oracle games. I'm not a copyright lawyer.
Count me as one of the lucky ones who never played the original. Or at least played some of it 20+ years ago but never finished it. Got the Limited Edition for £62, cant wait.
@diablo2
I’m absolutely fine with Nintendo charging ‘a lot’ for their games if it means less reliance on Microtransactions, a higher resale value than other Companies games, I can buy them at launch knowing the price won’t collapse within weeks leaving me feeling ripped off, and they keep their quality standards high.
Price/value is subjective but looking at the big picture I’d rather have the way they do things.
I am glad they didn't go for 1080p or 60fps but went with 720p + 30fps + frame drops because otherwise it won't be a faithful port of a 20 year old game
My guy! Can't wait!
@Dang69 Until yesterday I assumed the dungeons could be shared online. It seems like a no-brainer. Perhaps they'll patch that in later? I really don't see the point in playing through dungeons you've made yourself.
@BarefootBowser Well, tell that to the several reviews I have seen (on this very website) where they actively give their two cents on pricing. Those games just happened to be third-parties, by the way.
So it's all about keeping consistency, and more importantly, not giving Nintendo a pass just because Nintendo.
This is a great game, don't get me wrong. But much like Tropical Freeze, they priced it at $60 just because they know people will buy it anyway.
@electrolite77 Oh i agree, microtransactions are just crappy on a whole new level.
With that being said, it's worth noting that Nintendo is yet another publicly-traded corporation at the end of the day. While they're not necessarily twisting the knife too much, they're still stabbing you nonetheless, lol.
I stopped at my local Walmart on my lunch break to see if I would be lucky enough to see it in the cabinet a day early. No such luck, (although they did have the new Smash Bros amiibo out). Guess I'll wait until tomorrow like everyone else.
@OorWullie I think the closest you get is saving a custom dungeon on an Amiibo. So you can share it with your friends.
You are not making this easy for me NL! It's purchased and sitting on my Switch ready to go. Im flying on 03/10 and this is the game I bought for the flight, can my willpower hold out until then..
I'm going to try!
Fine. I’ll buy it. I didn’t play the original so apparently I’m one of the lucky ones.
@BarefootBowser "Lastly one man's expensive is another's spare change, how do you account for that?
Exactly...I swear some people in here would die of starvation on a pay as you leave bus...
I know this will be amazing but I just can’t justify paying full price for it. Will hopefully be able to pick it up cheaper at some point in the future
"and why do they buy it anyway? Simply because they see the value in it at that price."
Not necessarily. They have cultivated that price structure over many years, so eventually people have to accept it whether they like it or not. So even if Nintendo releases a mediocre game (which they HAVE , in the past), people will still buy it due to that long-term pricing structure combined with brand loyalty. Not necessarily due to the game's value.
"You may not agree, but clearly the demand is there at that price point."
There's also the fact that Nintendo games are exclusive, so people can't find them on other platforms (such as Steam) for a lower price. They have no other option.
So....the above are several valid reasons as to why people may be buying them. The answer is not strictly and solely based on value alone.
I can't wait to get neutralized by the shopkeeper for the umpteenth time. I'm newer to this game than most, but I've played through the DX version on the 3DS VC a couple of times.
For those of you playing this for the first time, you're in for a treat!
I never played the og, so I’m so excited to check this out. Frame rate issues (if not game-breaking) never really bother me, as they used to be the norm back in the day. Not bothered by the price either, tho I see people’s point on that. Good game to use a voucher on, if yer going digital. My homees hooking up his Best Buy club discount so I can acquire the physical cheaper which I’m real grateful for!
@diablo2
Oh yeah, it’s just a different way of extracting money from us punters. They’re not a charity, and keeping the perceived value of their games high is all about the brand and profits. It’s just I prefer that way of them getting money out of me for what is an entirely ephemeral Consumer product than other ways of getting money out of me for an entire....etc...😉
not trying to sound negative but i don't think it should be a 9/10 or a 88/100 on Metacritic just because its a remake i dont think it should be graded higher or the same as new games like Astral Chain or Fire Emblem Three Houses
I played through the gbc version a few years ago on my 3ds and loved it. Probably one of my favourite Zelda games.
But I prefer how the original looks, and not enough new for me here to justify the price. Shame it wasn’t a spiritual successor instead.
Can't wait to pick this up!!
@fluggy you’ll learn, haha, did the same thing, played the og a few months back and I’ve been a bit disappointed with the remaster. Most people’s criticism, that it’s too expensive is spot on but it’s still og Zelda, and better than the original due to the upgrades. I was letdown because I figured there would be more additions, and playing through all the old zeldas over the last few years has burned me out a bit and I’m sure that’s why I was letdown. Every generation before the present I found myself playing previous entries in a series before the new game came out and have tried to stop replaying franchises before the latest entry this generation due to said burnout.
Since Mole Mania used the Zelda GB engine... it would really make sense for them to do a new Mole Mania for the Switch (hence my username).
My preorder arrived today, a day early (thanks ShopTo!). Can't wait to play this later this evening.
I can't wait to get this game. Weeeee
@BarefootBowser For the record, do YOU think it's a tad overpriced, on a personal level?
Originally I was not sold on the art style but it grew on me. The game itself sounds like it is one of the better Zelda games. I did not get to play the original so I was planning on purchasing this remake. I was pretty excited for it but the price is making me totally rethink that now that it has been revealed there is essentially nothing new added to the game. I have Dragon Quest to still get and it seems totally worth the price based on the Demo. I purchased Astral Chain but that was unexpected. There is still Luigi and now the Grid title. ARGHHHHH!
@XBontendo
But if Marvel wants to do anything with Spiderman, I don't think they have to ask Sony for permission.
I got the Amiibo on Amazon.
As for the game, Not really worth $60 to me right now - Maybe if I see it used on Amazon Warehouse someday.
Link's Awakening is my least favorite real Zelda game, so I have 0 hype for this game. Hooray for everyone that cares about it though! Good on you guys.
Wait till it drops in price. Also windwaker should be remade.
My limited edition is coming tomorrow, I'm definitely looking forward to playing! I'm surely looking forward to flipping through that beautiful artwork book too. I do remember playing Link's Awakening DX on 3DS, but I'm not sure if I completed it.
@MrBlacky They do. Hence the recent issue where Spiderman will no longer be in upcoming Marvel movies. Sony said no deal.
The framerate does not seem to mainly correlate with "busy screens" but rather seems a memory bandwidth issues and also occasional memory leaks.
It looks cute, but at the end of the day it is just a straight 2.5D remake of a Gameboy game, and there's no way in heck I'm paying $60 for that.
It helps that I only ever rented Link's Awakening and never really got into it. If it were Oracle of Seasons/Ages being remade, that might be different, because IIRC OOS was the very first Zelda game I actually owned and played through. I have no attachment to LA, though, TBH.
Would the author or now owners say if you still had the old official Nintendo guide for the original non color release the information inside is still all valid as they kept it that close?
Yes I have it but also curious how much of a copy it really is.
I don’t know about this purchase, course I’m going to get it. I have beat it so many times. It won’t be a day one purchase for me. It won’t be a thing one purchase for me. Besides, Dragon Quest comes out next week.
I did not play the original so this is like a brand new Zelda game for me. I recently beat ALTTP on Switch and playing a linear game didn't bother me at all. I think there is room for both types of Zelda games in the universe (open world and closed linear). I'm looking forward to playing this!
@XBontendo
I read a little bit into it and apparently Marvel sold the rights for Spiderman to Sony. So it's basically the same, only the other way around.
But the rights for Zelda are definitely with Nintendo and so they donˋt have to ask ANYBODY for any permission (no matter who developed a certain game in the series).
@MrBlacky Well, if that's the case the easier the path to more Gameboy Zeldas the better. The Oracle games were my jam
Saw the UK advert for this today, guy going through his attic and finds his original Gameboy and game. Mint condition!
My Gameboy is missing the battery cover and the screen cover has fallen off!!
@diablo2 They did mention the price though. It's in the little "Game Profile" red box to the right of the review. I don't see any reason to discuss it more than that, since whether it's worth the price or not is pretty subjective. The combination of a thorough review providing more than enough info for me to get sense of what the game is like, combined with a price tag, is enough for me to decide whether it's worth the price to me. I don't see any reason for the reviewer to weigh in on whether it's worth the price, unless a game is egregiously out of line with similarly priced games in terms of quality or scope.
@diablo2 You said "A lot of people praise Nintendo for "not being evil" with microtransactions and whatnot....
But what most people don't realize is that Nintendo is still sucking you dry through other means — mainly by rarely dropping their prices, and by overpricing everything to begin with."
The thing is people do realize that, and that's exactly the point. There's nothing deceptive or manipulative about charging a lot up front for something. You see the price tag, and decide if it’s worth that price to you or not. For example Porsche charges a lot for their cars, more than I would want to pay for a car, but there’s nothing deceptive about it. They’re not trying to make me believe I’m getting a cheap or free car, and then once I’ve gotten attached to it then trying to nickel and dime me to keep using it. I see Nintendo games like that. Not everyone will think they’re worth the price, but you’re getting what it says on the tin for the advertised price.
The thing about free-to-play games or even many non-free games with micro-transactions, is that they try to trick or manipulate people into spending much more than they were planning to, using tactics similar to casinos to prey on people’s psychological weaknesses. It’s a totally different thing than just charging a lot up front for something.
I just hope if they ever plan to remake more 2D zeldas that they stop using the terrible toy graphics. What I'd give for a Link's Awakening with a similar style to this demake's opening cutscene.
Thank You so much for sharing this information.. This article is really helpful. Thank you so much...
The seashell manor looks like a trailer home that someone decorated and the result was unbearably tacky. Gads this game gets uglier everytime I see more of it!
Great! Now let's get a remake of Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru/For the Frog the Bell Tolls in this style! It feels only fitting, since both it and Link's Awakening were Game Boy games that used the same engine, not to mention they already have a model of Richard from that game!
Can't wait for this one. Never played the original, so I'm a lucky so and so. Started playing Zelda with the release of Windwaker, but after that I got hooked and played the GC versions, 3DS and BotW. I did like BotW, but my problem with games as big as BotW is that I’ll loose my interest after 20 hours. By that time a new game is already out and I start playing it. After a while I return to BotW, but I just can’t find my way anymore.
I love Zelda now, but in my NES/SNES time I didn’t like the games. I play them now, and love them. Link’s Awakening is exactly my cup of tea. I just don’t like games 40+ hour, because I got a busy social life. So it happens that I just don’t have the time to play games for a longer period of time. So, a game that has about 12 till 15 hours playing hours is just fine by me. It will be worth every cent.
I got the Limited editon and the Amiibo and I just can’t wait for it….
screw gym time tonight, I got the special edition waiting for me when I get off work
Right I've been playing this for a couple of hours so far and I can't say I'm that impressed and I played and loved the original when it first launched. In terms of the game that's as good as it ever was but the performance just isn't very good at all, and why on earth do I have to use the analogue stick for a game that plays like you're using a d-pad? Oh and I wish I could turn that depth of field effect off. Overall I'd give it a 7, probably an 8 if those issues were fixed and higher again if you haven't already played the original
Sadly my preorder is not on time and I have to wait until sometime next week . . . but OK then I just play the last file on Astral Chain.
Zelda game? Check.
NL 9/10 or 10/10 score? Check.
The usual.
BotW deserved the great score, but pretty much every other game has been subpar imo.
This one is fine so far, but the frame rate issues are very annoying and it's not suuuuper interesting. (EDIT: Personally I'd say 7/10 so far?)
@nocdaes This and the Oracle Zeldas: I can’t believe how much GAME they fit onto those little Gameboy carts!
It was seriously impressive
Wake me up when it's $30 or less... :/
@Asaki :
That's going to be a long, long nappytime for you.......
@Cyrax77 Sleeping is good, wake me up when it's 19.99
@Cyrax77 That's fine. While I wait, I have plenty of games that I haven't already beaten countless times. There's also BotW2 somewhere on the horizon
@Asaki
True story. Thank god I haven't played Link's Awakening before. If I would have, I'd still buy it, but I understand why people who played it multiple times say it's pricetag is too high. But it's Nintendo and the game will keep it's high price for a long, long time. Even if you'll sleep it off.
Does somebody know if the physical version is complete or if it needs a download?
So I’ve just bought this and Ni No Kuni physical at full price which is something I hardly ever do. It hurt handing over my card but hoping to get my moneys worth!
In my 41 years of age, I can honestly say that I didn't get into Zelda until Ocarina of Time. My parents were on a budget when we were kids. Got all the Mario games but never got around to the Zelda games. So with this remastering, I can finally play one of the great Zelda games that I missed out on. A win for me😁😏
My limited edition just arrived and Game uk have thrown in a free zelda poster, cleaning cloth and notepad too! Wahooo can't wait to get home and play it!! 😎
Typo in joys list: A truly beautiful remake of one of the (best?) Zelda games
Surprising to hear it has some frame rate issues (though nothing too extreme), from a flagship Zelda game. I’m sure Nintendo is going to patch it a few times going forward like they did with BotW.
But I’m so looking forward to this. I love the style, as I think it fits Link’s Awakening original whimsical nature. Gonna play this a lot this weekend.
I love the original GB version of this game, to the point that I loved this more than the SNES game. When I heard it was being re-released I was happy as I didn't see the need to repurchase Breath of the Wild on Switch.
Then I saw the retail price and was very confused. Nothing in any review I have read has justified the price tag, especially when nearly the exact same game (minus graphical upgrades) is still available for $6 in the 3DS eShop.
Captain Toad has about the same play length and retailed for $39.99 originally. No reason that this shouldn't be the same price (or lower).
Absolutely a must-have Zelda game, one of my favorite games of all time!
I see a trend here with Nintendo remaking games from the old gameboy era: we already have Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS and now Link's Awakening on Switch.
So please, Nintendo, give us remakes of Super Mario Land 2 and Kid Icarus: Myth and Monsters! I would buy five copies each!
I only noticed the performance issues in BOTW in the forest... these frame rate issues are obvious and frequent... hope they can be resolved soon as loving my revisit to the Island. A ‘Switch PRO’ ASAP please Nintendo!
@Kalmaro Why are you not buying this?
@GamingDude800 Because I played the original and just can't justify buying it at full price yet.
@Simonmoskovits To me, framerate drops are not an issue for games running at either 60fps or above but are more of a problem for games running at 30fps and since Zelda Breath of the Wild completely runs at 30fps having framerate drops is not a good thing!
@Nintendofan83 I think is what people are forgetting. Is a new game for many persons. Nitendo need also make a new generation of gamers become fans of zelda. And this game have full potential to do that.
@Coxula is complete.
@Darknyht While I understand that it is a high quality remake I personally completely see where you are coming from as even higher quality Nintendo Switch such as the Nintendo Switch port of Doom 3 are much cheaper than this!
@Tempestryke
Simple really , don’t play it lol.
@Coxula
Complete
@Woosh193 I have no intention of doing so. Simple concept you don't understand.
@Franklin No mention of music but comparing videos shows the new version got the lazy secret of mana treatment.
Nice review and nice score. The music is a bit weird though. I don't have a opinion on it yet.
@GamingDude800 fair point! I have a basic understanding of resolution and fps but I couldn’t identify either from watching a short video. All I know is that these issues happen lots and really spoil the experience for me ((
@Galenmereth I agree! I as so excited for this and played the original (and the vast majority of games in the series) to death back in the day! I’m all for pushing a system but these issues are surprising considering it’s a 27 year old game underneath new graphics/sound.
I also find the depth of field effect to be too much, it’s either on or off... it doesn’t blend together. Wish you could turn this off and just see a sharp image!
I know it’s a short game so was hoping it would be perfect while it lasted.
@Galenmereth Mysterious forest is a lot weaker and worse.
https://youtu.be/GY68esxHIWY
Gbc https://youtu.be/D3cUmT9T1w4
Text boxes are out of place though not as bad as mobile Bay's phone menus.
Gbc - much better font. Also jingle is better when you get treasure.
@Galenmereth It's not nitpicking. I lose immersion with terrible text boxes. Chrono trigger for ds had tiny font which is terrible too.
@Cyrax77 I know they don't usually come down in price, but this game has "future Nintendo Selects" written all over it
Maybe eShop discounts too, but I prefer physical.
You're in for a treat, though. Link's Awakening is one of the best games in the series.
I see Link's Awakening as a work of art, and as such dislike the dungeon maker.
To me it would be like rearranging the chapters of a Dickens novel however you liked; it would completely ruin it.
Performance issues aside, I’m loving this and after about 6 hours of play I have ‘adjusted’ to the frequent ‘issues’.
The graphics and sound are amazing and I’m sure I’ll play through again in the future.
It is expensive for what it is but it costs over £10 to see a film for a couple of hours these days...
I love the humour and the dungeons are some of the best in the series!
I'm loving the game so far. Regarding the framerate issues... I literally haven't noticed anything amiss. The game looks beautiful and seems to me to run great. It's not the sort of game that relies on split second reactions so I can't imagine it causing me an issue in any case.
I finally beat this last night and I enjoyed most of it, and was extremely aggravated with a couple of the dungeons — mainly the eagle dungeon! I would give this an 8 out of 10 mostly because of the constant frame drops. It was pretty disappointing upon starting the game to notice all the drops right off — made the game seem slugish during some locations.
Started playing it yesterday. The framerate really took some of the shine off it, but other than that it's a real gem so far.
@thesilverbrick Did you ever get back to it? I bought it at launch, but just started playing the other day. Completely absorbed. (Love it.)
I did! I actually ended up buying it just a couple days later when I saw it for $10 off. I wound up beating it in just a couple days. It was amazingly charming. I plan on going back to play it again and get all the heart pieces this time. Lord knows I’ll have plenty of time at home to play, haha.
@thesilverbrick Excellent! I haven’t seen the ending yet (even though people spoiled it for me... please don’t talk about it), but I hear there’s a secret ending if you don’t die. Was already like 8 hours in by the time I realized that, so didn’t want to restart.
Anyway, not planning to sell the game so it’ll be nice to go through it again someday and see that ending too. (I’m already trying to get every heart and secret I can find on this first playthrough.)
@BlubberWhale I managed to avoid dying and got to see the secret ending. I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s definitely not worth restarting for if you’re eight hours in. Just look it up on YouTube or something once you’ve finished the game.
@thesilverbrick Yeah good advice, definitely don’t want to restart just for that haha. May just be a nice side bonus if I ever feel like playing through a second time. (Or technically 2nd and a half time since I played through maybe half on the original Game Boy as a kid.) Alright later!
May I have some help as I think I may have been softlocked: I am in the ancient ruins but have no bombs to get out of the area- please help! I do not want to revert to a previous save file as other wise I will have to do bottle grotto and key cavern again.
This remake is very cool looking, but the definitive version of the game is still the monochrome original. Some people like the game boy color version too, but I will always recommend the original one over that one, due to its garish colors and overpowered items available later in the game.
I certainly didn't expect Nintendo to revisit this game's artstyle in 2024 and for a game where you play as Zelda no less.
@Mr_Muscle Simplicity? The Metroid franchise is anything but simple. At any rate, I'm surprised you still like the original, as that is honestly the worst Metroid game outside of Federation Force. Yes, I would rather play Other M. At least that game is funny bad.
@Darknyht it's now at the point where you can just buy a used copy of eBay, and if you havent gotten the remake yet, I would recommend doing so in preparation for Echoes of Wisdom.
@Asaki TOTK: same world map, worse story, no updates, $70.
Now would be a good time to get LA2019.
@Judal27 nah, instead, they decided to make a new game with these graphics.
In all fairness, though, it's just personal preference. I love how this game looks.
@JoeDiddley 5 years later, Nintendo does a spiritual successor to the remake.
Might wanna hop on that train, then.
@GASEOUS you should buy a used copy from eBay now that Echoes of Wisdom is on the way.
@Roam85 this aged well. At any rate, the remake is cheaper on eBay.
@DwaynesGames 6.46 million sales as of the end of 2022.
@DwaynesGames Samus Returns was worse. Still easily better than its original, but nowhere near as good as any version of Links Awakening.
@batmanbud2 thanks for suggesting, but I rented this one in the end of 2019 for like 8 Bucks and finished 100% in 3 Days 😅🤣
@TwinFami this comment is complete crap.
First off, even though Links Awakening was always a better game than the first Metroid, you're a fool for thinking Nintendo will ever make a remake so infinitely better than the original as Zero Mission was. That will genuinely never happen again.
Second, every complaint you have with this except the framerates is completely stupid. The crane game and raft ride were flat out tedious and boring in the original, combat in the original was laughably easy and needed changes, adding more seashells encourages more exploration and gives the seashells more worth (especially since you now get more rewards), and you have to lenient on the dungeon maker, as it is an experimental feature (and one I found quite interesting). The only complaint I will give you is the framerates, but even then, framerates almost never factor into my enjoyment of a game. Ever. Plus, the game is still virtually the exact same length.
In addition to all that, claiming this was made out of pure greed and nostalgia is pure blasphemy for a Nintendo remake (not counting BDSP. That was Game Freak, not Nintendo). This is especially the case considering they are now using this style for a new Zelda game. This remake is not a disgrace; it is simply an alternate way to play what is, in my opinion, the best Zelda game.
@GASEOUS oh 🤣🤣🤣
@batmanbud2 aged great. Original is on the switch online app basic package that seems to come with the system now/is 20 bucks a year and gets you the ability to play switch games online as well as a boatload of other NES, Game Boy (Color), and SNES games.
If you don’t want to spend extra money on the remake, don’t. The original is exceedingly playable and available.
@Roam85 the thing is, that was also the case with Kirby Super Star Ultra. In fact, I played the original on NSO first and ended up buying Ultra used (in case) for $44. I vastly prefer Ultra. Not only do I enjoy the extra content a lot, but the game overall looks and feels better than it ever did on SNES. To be fair, I got my copy of LA2019 as a Christmas gift, and I very much like both versions of the game, but I would be lying if I said these kinds of remakes weren't worth it at all.
@batmanbud2 Too late, I already played and loved TotK.
Now I'm gonna get Echoes of Wisdom.
@batmanbud2 I ended up buying my copy of Link’s Awakening HD used, probably about a month after it released. Just under $45 including shipping.
Now that we can look back, Dread built on what Samus Returns established (the blocking and parry mechanics). I stand by Samus Returns being a great game and has some of the best 3D graphics on the 3DS.
I do have Echos of Wisdom preordered (physical) and I am looking forward to it. 😊
How about you? I assume you will be getting Echoes of Wisdom too.
@batmanbud2 I was gifted a copy. To be honest, I still prefer the original version with all its quirks. That is probably more due to the fact I am a fan of the era in gaming than anything in particular.
@Darknyht I can see that. I personally prefer the remake, as that actually got me to become a Zelda fan, and I'm now trying to play all of them (even Four Swords Adventures). However, the original still has a place in my heart.
