I played Blood Omen on my Windows 95 PC about 30 years ago and loved every minute of it !!! Vae victis !!!

The Blood Omen love in these early comments delights me. These are fantastic games and contain some of the best narrative you'll find in... maybe any visual media to be honest.

İ had Blood Omen 2 on the original Xbox.
That game was so good and it was my first Xbox game. İt was incredible game. Very good levels, good music and very good gameplay. İn Blood Omen 2 you play as Kain not Raziel.

There must be a Zelda game but it must be in 3D Zelda game. Where you play as Ganondorf not Link. Like Blood Omen 2. İt must be the story from Ganondorf.

İ have not played Soul Reaver games so İ am not sure but İ think Kain is the main villian in Soul Reaver game or games. İn Blood Omen 2 you play as Kain. İt is the story from Kain. Kain is the villian from Soul Reaver game or games. That was incredible.

I have fond memories of playing this on Dreamcast and PS2 (still have my copies actually) but watching that just now the gameplay just seems super dated. Might wait for a sale on this one.

I feel like, for many, the wait for a re-release and / or remaster of the Soul Reaver games was like...
"Tumbling within white-hot fire, I plunged into the depths of the abyss. Unspeakeable pain... relentless agony... time ceased to exist. Only this torture... and deepening hatred of the hypocrisy that had damned me to this Hell."

Then, upon announcement: "... an eternity passed... and my torment receded, bringing me back from the precipice of madness. The descent had destroyed me, and yet... I lived."

@Koffeeking0407 I think this game walked tall in it's day, so games like the PS2's God Of War, PS3's Uncharted franchise, and other games could run; games that could rake in a decent pool of voice talent (these games employed professional animation VO artists Tony Jay and Michael Bell who'd been working steadily since the 1980s after all), and streamlined loading processes to provide an almost seamless "3D environment Metroidvania" experience that hadn't quite been mastered before.

I admit it seems dated now, but that would be because what it did so well, it was among the earliest to do. Now that we live in the days after, we can look at it and appreciate what it started, but it's hard to go back and play it fresh.

Like playing SMB1 after 6 months of practicing SMB3, kinda, just a loose comparison off the top of my head.

@Res462 I need all 5 games on Switch ASAP. From Blood Omen to Defiance. The world needs to see this story from beginning to end. Or middle to far future to past to future to end to beginning to end again.

Not having the first Blood Omen is a massive miss. Incredible game in need of a little polishing and also a brilliant story leading into Soul Reaver. I'd buy a full collection with both Blood Omens and Defiance with these, but this stubby collection is going to probably be a pass. Soul Reaver is already amazing on the Vita.

What a fabulous way to close out the year

I wonder if this means they are working on a brand new game. I am so old I remember playing Legacy of Kain on Dreamcast.

Awesome hope we get remastered of Blood Omen 1 & 2 as well later down the line.

I have fond memories of these games but, as others have already said, from a narrative point of view (which does actually matter in this series) this includes neither the beginning nor the end. Hope they release the others too.

Neat. I only played the first one on my PS3, very briefly. I liked the voice acting and the grim, spooky aesthetics but the gameplay left a lot to be desired. Maybe these remasters will be better? We shall see, come December.

i only played the first legacy of kain game blood omen and enjoyed it so i am looking forward to these 2 games.. i hope there will be a physical version..

It would be funny if Nintendo's eshop had a featured tile of Switch-relevant announcements from Sony's State of Play just to show how multiplatform life is nowadays.

First the Castlevania GBA collection, then the Castlevania DS collection, then the Marvel vs. Capcom collection, then the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and now this....

Is it bad that I'm more excited about releases of super old games than any brand new ones?

@Zach777 The gameplay will be pretty dated at this point, but the writing, voice acting and plot progression... timeless.

The Blood Omen/Legacy of Kain series is one of gaming's greatest tragedies, because we never got an end to the saga. This series proved that video games are just as much a serious art form and storytelling medium as anything else.

I had Legacy on Kain on Dreamcast, remember being very impressed by it.

One of the best if not be best voiceacting & storytelling in all of videogaming. Hope this sells well so we might finally get a new worthy chapter in this series.

I loved this back in the day, played it a lot on PC. I wonder how it stands the test of time, but I'm definitely happy to see it back, and curious to take it for a spin!

Will definitely get this is a physical comes out, remember playing a demo from Official PlayStation Magazine but never got around to getting the full game

Disappointed personally. Not the graphically upgrade I want. Doesn't seem much better than what a good emulator can already do.

I hope they have major quality of life improvements (either forced or as options to be turned on). The games were fantastic in their time but pretty dated now. Though that last game was one of my fav games ever. Would love to see the rest of this series get more remaster treatment.

@burninmylight I thought the last game where you play as both and defeat the elder god was a proper final chapter. Did it have a cliff hanger and I’ve forgotten? It’s been years so maybe I am misremembering it.

I plugged my Dreamcast in a few months ago just to play the first one, such a good franchise! Absolutely ready to pick up the remaster, what great news!

This is an unexpected delight. Def will keep eye on this and hopefully we get more remastered collections afterwards like Blood Omen 1 & 2 as well.

@Zach777 The first Soul Reaver is a bit dated in the same sense as OoT is dated. It'll be a bit rough if you don't have nostalgia for it, but as one of the best examples of this genre from that time period, it's still quite playable. If Zelda gameplay, in a metroidvania world, with gothic art direction, and better writing and voice acting than Metal Gear sounds good to you, then I highly recommend it.
Soul Reaver 2 abandons the metroidvania world for a strictly linear experience, but makes some improvements to the combat and has some excellent puzzles.

I'm trying to be cautious how hard I recommend these games to people, because it's been years since I've played through them, but I LOVED these games. 20 years ago, the first Soul Reaver was consistently in my top five GoaTs. I'll be getting the remaster to support the series, and see if it's actually as good as I remember

I liked the original legacy of kain better but my brother loved the soul reavers. Why didn't they just go ahead and include the third one too?

Makes no sense to release Soul Reaver 1 and 2, when it ends on a cliffhanger. Why leave out the final chapter in Defiance which concludes this epic tale?

If you are referring to the Hylden, I doubt only one more installment could end the saga. It would feel rushed if so. Like the final episode of Game of Thrones.

A few days late as I've only just seen this but I am so excited to see Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver heading for Nintendo Switch! I loved this game on PC/PS1 back in the day.

Now I just have to cross everything and hope for a physical release!
