It's Official, The Nintendo Museum Opens October 2024

The museum looks cool and all but the Toads at the end stole the show

Kyoto residents were already fed up with overtourism.

The direct was actually a really fun watch, some parts of it really just made me laugh. I hope to be able to visit there one day, though that's not gonna be easy. Or cheap.

I hope we haven't just been shown the Switch 2 controllers. I don't want another person to help me lift and use a controller.

Interesting how the website says only to use public transportation to reach the museum, except for taxi's 😅

I hope they have a whole Nintendo Direct exhibit that prominently features Mr. Iwata and a bunch of his stuff like the L hat he wore in the Year of Luigi Direct back in 2013. Iwata's legacy deserves to live on forever. Just give me a whole room filled with Nintendo Direct memorabilia and other products featured in Nintendo promotional videos like Nonspecific Action Figure, lol.

Maybe there could even be a gallery with photo portraits of a bunch of Nintendo's senior employees--like when you go into a hospital and they have all the doctors' pictures framed on the wall. Could be a good way to introduce us to new staff we're not too familiar with. Maybe each could have a little plaque that explains their contributions to the company.

I don't know if this was really a Japanese thing necessarily, but a room where you could flip through a complete collection of old Nintendo Power magazines would be awesome. Maybe they have all of the copies in a sealed display case, but they have a large interactive screen where you can view high-res scans of every page of every issue sorted by months.

Something they didn't show that I feel like is a MUST are prototype hardware designs as well as a portion dedicated to concept art and other beta elements that were scrapped for one reason or another.

The more I think about it, the more my mind is spinning with other ideas they could implement. They could salvage some of their old E3 booth displays to put in the museum, like the BotW, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Smash Ultimate ones, as well as the Animal Crossing display they had at PAX that one year.

Maybe they can even have a bedroom exhibit where you and a partner get to enjoy a magical stay in one of their love hote-- **gets shot**

Haven't watched the video as i want to go in fresh. I work in Kyoto City and used to live there before moving to my current location; it is a formerly wonderful place that has sold itself out to tourism and is now pretty much unbearable for anyone old and grumpy enough to remember what it used to be like. I have visited Uji before, I'm sure the residents there are dreading how things will change over the next year.

Anyway, I have applied for my tickets - planning to take my four-year old who is starting to show an interest in my games collection and loves Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, and the Pikmin characters - so will keep my fingers crossed.

Cool but probably can see people cover it online anyway without a need for an account, or may know most of this stuff anyway (unless it's more particular then sure).

So a fair venue but eh. As much as I care about history, it depends what shows up that's even worthy going to see it anyway. If the most common then pass, if more in-depth, more niche or more exciting tid bits then I'd say yes it's worth it.

There better be a Switch Nintendo Museum app like 3DS The Lourve. XD

I wonder where Pyoro is located in the museum? Miyamoto must be torturing him for information via the Virtual Boy to give him headaches to make him talk while holding him at NES Zapper-point.

Those giant Wii Motes stole the show, then came the singing Toads by the end.

Another reason to go back to Japan.

@Not_Soos what I'd like to see is those Reggie, Miyamoto and Iwata puppets from E3 2015/Star Fox Zero. Maybe also the LEGO Iwata holding a carrot from a Japanese Direct in 2013 showcasing LEGO City Undercover.
But most importantly, I hope they have somewhere the legendary quote of Iwata of

I were on a retro show / museum 2 days ago in Norway where you could play on 50 year old consoles too.
The composer of all Final Fantasy games were there, but i didn't care. She were greedy too as she charged personal tickets.

I met the legendary Chris Huelsbeck who made game music before Nintendo consoles even existed. NES weren't even launched yet.
As usual i played on VirtualBoy there like every year.

İ have watched the whole video from the Nintendo Museum. İt looks pretty fun. Where you can play with huge controllers part was very fun for me but you must play with an other person. You can not play alone.

There are something else that are not games that have made Nintendo. That was fun too.

İf İ had a chance to go there. That would be awesome.

Will there be an exhibit exploring the history of the Yamauchi crime family?

I hope they eventually make other Nintendo museums so I can visit atleast one in Europe (where I live).

I am in the draw as travelling to Japan in November. I will be heartbroken if I do not get tickets as it looks like Donkey Kong Country will no longer be opening in time for my visit.

Remember when they had that 3DS tour guide software for the Louvre? They should do something similar here.

This looks so awesome. Quirky ideas too, and pretty on brand for Nintendo.

The first 5 mins were sort of dissapointing.. a few good game stores have a simalar little exhibition.. but the experiences are nice... still, it's great that it is on that location.. a bit like entering the holy temple

but nothiung aobut the process, the creators etc..

@VoidofLight why is that weird? Classic marketing snare, you're signed up to receive emails that push product advertisements to you. Also most Nintendo fans would already be a member anyway
