My favorite image of 2023 goes all the way back to the beginning of the year. There
are so many odd things about my choice: I rarely do selfies or self-portraits; I don’t much like pictures of myself; it is rare that I call attention to my personal self like this. This image was made in a very dark time in a very dark place for me. Starting the year with a self-portrait
challenge gave me a reason, an excuse if you will, to explore and share some of that darkness. Now, a year later, this image is a reminder not only of the darkness, but of how far I’ve come since then.

returned to Ireland in November and left a piece of my father; he and I bonded late in his life over our love for Ireland.

A very difficult task for me, I couldn’t chose one single photo from the hundreds taken last year… So I tried to chose 9 of them I really like and make a collage in one photo only, as it’s required.
