As a prequel story to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Koei Tecmo and Nintendo's Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity finally gives us the chance to play as other characters in this world. Nothing against the lovely Link, of course, but the world of Hyrule is filled with many colourful characters, so the opportunity to step into their shoes and kick some bokoblin butt is very welcome.
Below we've listed every playable character you can unlock in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Every single one is unlocked through normal play, and on any difficulty level, so you'll get all of them eventually if you simply keep playing (it took us around 60 hours to unlock the 18th and final fighter).
You'll also find information on their Regular and Strong Attacks, plus each character's Unique Action (activated via the 'ZR' button). Attacks-wise, most fighters follow a very similar pattern of Regular and Strong Attacks on the 'Y' and 'X' buttons, although some of them do have different combos and abilities. The same goes for Rune abilities, which are also shown in detail — check out the screenshots below (or feel free to simply enjoy the gallery of character artwork!).
SPOILERS! Although there are no specific story details below, we've listed the character names in the contents, so we recommend you don't scroll any further if you want to save the surprise! There are a few rather unexpected combatants, and we'd wager we'll see even more in DLC (which is surely in the works). If any fighters are added, you can be sure they'll appear below, too.

Sidon and Mipha reunite!
They made calamity ganon look so ( excuse my language) bad*** in this game, way better than the spider and cow in botw lol
Really hoping we get Sooga as a free DLC the way Hyrule Warriors added Cia, Wizzarobe, and Volga. He looks like he'd be fun to play as. Aside from that I've been loving the playable cast so far. The Monk was a very pleasant surprise and I love that he's basically Ultraman.
Impa and the frankly facemelting DPS she outputs makes the rest of the cast feel veeeeery slow by comparison. But perhaps I just need to get better with the others.
THEM CLONES THOUGH
@Jacob1092 There are no clones in this roster, every moveset is unique from one another.
@Scorcher
I think he means Impa's clones.
@Scorcher Depends on how many symbols you absorb 😉
@Onion Yes. Yes he did.
The art is so beautiful. Still wish Impa would have gotten her own character design. I get that Paya's popular, Impa's not usually at the top of everyone list of cares anyways and she's supposed to "look like her" lol, but I really wasn't expecting a Paya clone. But still, the art is absolutely gorgeous and the characters are a blast to play.
I wonder if theres gonna be dlc..
@Onion I really hope to play as Sooga to. It was sad when he didnt come back and there was no further mention of him. Guess he died.
