Gallery: Here's The Switch Lite Hyrule Edition In All Its Zelda-Themed Beauty

This edition deserved an OLED screen.

If I collect all editions will it grant my wish?

I'm a bit torn. On the one hand I'd love to get a Switch Lite for my commute to work, as I spend an hour in the train 3 days a week. Otherwise I only play Switch exclusively docked. Is the Switch Lite really worth it? And if you have 2 Switches, how easy is it to keep them synced?

I have some of the minimalistic golden special edition Nintendo systems they've produced:

• GBA SP
• Nintendo 3DS/XL
• Wii Skyward Sword controller
• Switch Oled
• and now the Switch Lite

Love all of them! And this Switch Lite might be one of the best looking ones. Bit of a shame it's not able to stand up (for me as a collector), but definitely a gorgeous, gorgeous system.

I already have a TOTK OLED but decided to grab one of these anyway. Glad I did because it's a really sleek device with a pretty design. Didn't compare the exact weights but it seemed about as light as a Vita slime which is crazy to me.

While there is no beating the OLED display for me, I got my Lite loaded with a bunch physical games I own that don't have any DLC so I can keep everything on one account for both devices. Will probably use this mainly for when I need to travel light.

@Pillowpants If you have at least the basic NSO subscription, you can transfer the save data between devices with that.

That said, the problem is whichever system isn't the primary console will require a network connection when playing digital games AND games that have DLC (free or paid, unfortunately) loaded on them.

So it sounds like would you need to make the Lite your primary console and the docked Switch the secondary.

Would've been cool 2-3 years ago. But on the verge of the Switch 2 release? Nope. It does look cool, though.

@Pillowpants You do know that your current Switch is a portable too? But seriously, I don't think it is really worth it. It is possible to use two Switches. But it is not that easy that I would consider it over just undocking my Switch to play on the go.

I have a Switch OLED and recently bought a Switch Lite. Bought it cheap on Aliexpress. I want to mod it with a OLED screen. For that price it sounded like a fun project.
It is a sleek device. It is a bit smaller and a bit lighter. But it is not more easy to take with you than the normal Switch. But this Hyrule Edition looks cool.

The most attractive edition of the Lite by far.

1/2 @Pillowpants LONG ANSWER WARNING: I went through this exact predicament. I only play docked and I really don't care for the analog sticks on the switch so didn't think I'd enjoy handheld only that much. But...here's my experience thus far after about 3 months with a Lite and a docked Switch:
Getting the Switch Lite up and running was easy. I had to manually re-download all my titles from the eShop. I had to keep checking on it periodically for about 24 hours because some downloads would just stop or halt and not continue. I had to keep re-triggering them, etc.
Then, for whatever reason, every single game I downloaded, I had to go into the game's settings (the screen where you can redeem gold points for carts) and manually tell each one to download my cloud data that very first time. After this first time, everything is automatic but I had to do this step ONCE for each game.
Next, you then have to decide what your main switch will be. The main switch is the console that automatically downloads new digital games and the system that gets your demos that you select to download from eShop in the browser.
Despite my docked regular Switch being my main way to play Switch games, I ultimately decided that my Switch Lite is my primary console as far as the eShop is concerned, and here is why: The non-primary Switch (docked, at home) needs to touch base with Nintendo's servers every time you boot a digital game. That of course requires an internet connection. So for example, if I go to play my non-primary Switch Lite on an airplane, and it can't connect to Wi-Fi, I can't play my digital game. This does not affect physical carts, you can play them 24 hours a day whenever. The other part of this is that if someone is home on your docked Switch playing the digital version of Echoes of Wisdom and you go to play that same downloaded digital copy on your Switch Lite, you won't be able to. For digital games, the console that boots the digital game first gets priority and won't let you play it on another console until the game is closed. Again, this does not affect physical carts (if each system has a physical Echoes of Wisdom cart inserted, you're good to go), it is only for digital games.
The solution is to set the console that won't have Wi-Fi readily available at all times as the primary.

So, my current workflow/setup:
My main OG launch day switch stays docked and on basically always on Wi-Fi. I play this the most and always remember to close my game out when I'm done to "free it up." Every time I boot a digital game, it does a quick Nintendo server handshake ("Checking if game can be played") and then boots into the game. This is never a problem because again, I'm always on Wi-Fi.
For my Switch Lite, I take this with me on trips and because it's the "primary" console, it doesn't require a quick Nintendo server hand-shake every time I boot a digital game. (See 2/2)

2/2 @PillowPants Overall, it's kind of clunky and not ideal but I haven't had any issues with it so far so it does work. I do not regret getting the Switch Lite at all; You asked if it was worth it more or less and I say YES. I love the proper D-pad and I love having this massive library with me when I go on trips. For example, I finally beat Landstalker (Genesis NSO) again for the first time since I was like 12 or something because it was so enjoyable on the Lite. I used to have my soul tethered to my 3DS because it was the ultimate portable system (frankly, it's still tempting to take this with me sometimes...) but now the Switch has finally become my go-to because of how portable the Lite is. It's also really great having the cloud saves be able to bounce back and forth between the docked console and handheld. Wife wants the TV? Cool, let me close the game out and pop over to my more comfortable Lite and pick right up where I left off.

It looks great, but I wish they did just a little something extra besides the Triforce logo. And including a display stand would have been awesome too. I still hope to get one when I have some more money. Probably in 2036.

Would love this but I already have 5 switchs’ses

I've had the launch Switch, launch Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and now the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite. I've tried many joycon replacements, grips, etc. but the wobbly feeling of the Switch's rail system and added weight compared to the Switch Lite's unibody design and lighter weight (and d-pad!) make the Lite my preferred system for handheld play. To me, a dockable Switch Lite with an OLED screen would be my ideal Switch.

I mean I'm almost exclusively a handheld player but I use the OLED model. It doesn't make any sense to me to get a worse screen. I also don't have any lites or played on one but I imagine the smaller form factor is less comfortable as well.

@Yosti @ChromaticDracula @TheExile285 , Thanks for the honest replies. Since I've got a hefty bonus incoming in October, I think I might get me this edition if it's still easily available by then. I do realise the Switch is already a handheld, but I've got a day 1 edition and the joycons that came with it drift horribly. I know I could easily address that problem, but as I said, I play docked most of the time.

I was just wondering, since the Lite doesn't support docked mode if it was any good as a handheld, but my questions have been answered and then some! Thank you! That's why I love this site so much

First time I’ve bought a switch console as a collector’s item. Now I want the TOTK Switch OLED 😅

I picked mine up yesterday. I was in two minds about it as I have an OG (which I rarely play in handheld) and then there's the Swich 2 right around the corner. I justified the purchase as a way of getting through my back catalogue of indies and retro games though.

I love it! The size, the weight, the D-pad, the black buttons and sticks, just everything really! Even the screen looks great despite not being an OLED.

It's made me realise why I hardly play my OG in handheld too, it's just not comfortable. I have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot more handheld gaming going forward.

Technically, this started with NES as the cartridges for the OG Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link were completely gold.

I’m waiting until November to decide. If they are still available i will buy one to be my work/travel system (I have enough physical games that it doesn’t have to be my primary). I was gonna turn my V2 (as I have an OLED now) into that but this is the only way I can justify it. Especially if I replace the screen with an oled one.

Whoever’s Lite that is has good taste. Cruis’n blast is awesome! Not sure how well it fits into the LOZ theme tho 😂

My wallet is so relieved it wasn't an OLED. Still, beautiful little unit.

I think I'm going to wait to upgrade to either a Switch OLED or wait for Switch 2. I've loved my Switch lite, but I don't love getting the joysticks replaced (the repair shop closest to me charges $80).

I don't really have the need for a Switch Lite. It does look really cool, but I still prefer my Switch OLED.

@Ryu_Niiyama no matter how often I checked the Amazon page, I never actually saw it up for preorder or on stock, only reseller listings.

So, as much as I’d like one, I’m not paying double for it 😅

@Eel is there anywhere else you can order? I have heard Amazon has had issues with Nintendo. I noticed eshop cards aren’t available in my country for some time now. Had to switch to best buy.

@Ryu_Niiyama it’s usually the best place to get games here in particular, since I kind of live in the middle of nowhere.

I might end up finding it at a retail store elsewhere next time I go on vacation. But if it’s not meant to be, then I’ll take it as a sign to save for the next console.
