We had to wait nearly six months, but we finally had another Nintendo Direct to sink our teeth into. This time around the focus was primarily on the 3DS, with a couple of relatively minor Wii U details sneaking in. There were most certainly some surprises, and Nintendo of America maintained its recent record of wackiness in its presentation.
Coming in at a little over 30 minutes in Europe and North America, there was quite a lot to digest. Most notable, perhaps, was a willingness to reveal some titles for 2017, and the reveal of a couple of Wii U games getting ported over to the 3DS. We don't know, of course, whether Nintendo plans to show a little love to Wii U in the near future, but it must be said that considering some of the reveals today and broader circumstances, the home console is being mostly put out to pasture. Today reinforced that impression, in any case, and it's a topic we'll write about a little in the coming days.
Overall this writer thought it was a strong show, though these Directs are on a hiding to nothing in terms of trying to impress everyone. Aside from a few segments reiterating old news, the broadcasts did have some nice surprises that weren't all easy to predict. It ended with a particularly exciting reveal for Pikmin on 3DS too, though it's a new approach for the series that may prove divisive.
We'll have polls and editorials to come over the next few days, but as so much of the news has already dropped off the front page we thought the traditional 'big summary' would be a good start. We didn't report specifically on repeated news (such as previously announced release dates) but tried to cover all of the key details from the European and North American broadcasts. Below you'll find links to our articles, the full Direct videos, official trailers and some summaries from our own YouTube channel.
Enjoy!

Missed out on the beard (in Europe) but loved it anyway! This was a very strong direct and pretty much cements the fact that there is nothing coming to the Wii U.
Wish I could have seen it but I had school. Exciting none the less!
Wii u is dead! (And im fine with that, also the 3ds got a lot of ports which I'm very suprised )
I was sad to see that Pikmin 4 is 2D, but beside that I really enjoyed the Direct. Favorite announcement is probably Mario Sports Superstars.
I can never forget the 8-bit Link amiibo. Right when I think I'm done...
The Wii U is dead.
i still have hope some new stuff coming to wii u besides there are a few games i waiting for anyways.
Seeing that 2 of it's best titles (in my opinion) are now for the 3DS, Nintendo has officially given up of marketing the Wii U.
I was quite pleased with this Direct. I went in with low expectations and then was surprised multiple times. With NX on the horizon I fully expected Nintendo to lean hard on third parties to fill the 3DS line-up through the end of 2016 and into 2017. Obviously that is not their plan. As someone who does not own the Wii U (and has no plans to get one) I am also pleased to see Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World coming over.
I suspect that the new Pikmin on 3DS will generate some of the same negative feedback as Federation Force did. Although Wii U did get a proper Pikmin game this generation I suspect that fans will be ticked if this is the Pikmin 4 that they were waiting for. We will have to wait and see once the NX is revealed.
I don't know why they bothered. It was nothing more than official pulling the plug for U.
@Wandman5612
Can you really blame Nintendo for wanting to get more mileage out of these games? Wii U is not going to suddenly take off and sell millions of machines this holiday season regardless of what exclusive games it has. However, there is the potential to sell millions of copies of Mario Maker on 3DS.
9 out of 10
Would have been 10 with a price cut or New 2DS. How are kids going to enjoy those ACNL cards and Poochy amiibo w/o NFC? That portal doesn't exist.
The only thing I wondered coming in was would there be any thing to justify even having an ND? We already knew about Pokemon, DQ7 and 8, and ACNL. Why have an ND?
SMM, Yoshi, Pikmin (is it 4?), Mario Sports, Tanks
Yes, that's enough. Plus Zelda stuff. 9/10
Now, either have one for Wii U or NX, some of us want to play games on our tvs and we are feeling like 2nd class citizens in Nintendos world. I know this was a 3DS ND and it delivered, just saying now we want a turn.
Nice, some good stuff coming to 3DS.
9/10 grade, exceeded expectations greatly
Negatives: nothing about more VC, DQ8 pushed to 2017, pretty big kick in the pants to Wii U owners
Will Wii U still be dead once Breath of the Wild gets released? Or will everyone be playing it on NX?
I thought this was a fabulous Direct! Lots of surprises, which means lots to get excited about!
If there's a poll for what we're most excited about, well, I'm not sure which I'm excited the most for!
For me, this was just as poor for 3DS as it was for Wii U. I personally don't care about console ports on handheld (unless it's something like DQVII where it's never been released on any system before in Europe). I'm surprised at the amount of people that now claim they're happy to play these console ports on a handheld considering how often they put down Sony's strategy of doing the same with their handhelds. The only real thing I'm even slightly interest in is the Mario Sports game, and they have such a poor recent track record, I'm not expecting it to actually turn out to be good enough to buy
I dub thee the double dip direct.
An important question: seen that in this Direct, most of the games shown were ports of WiiU games to the Nintendo 3DS, and a lot of people keep saying that the "WiiU is dead" (I really don't know up to this point), does that mean that the NX will be a home console?
Overall, great direct. I expected more info about games we already know a lot about and just one big surprise, and they exceeded my expectations completely. They didn't bloat the direct talking about upcoming games way too much and we did get lots of new stuff. Personal highlight was Pikmin 3DS, even though I'm hoping this is not what Miyamoto referred to as Pikmin 4.
And for those claiming the Wii U is dead: welcome to the party, you're almost one year late
I'm not much for handhelds, but it was a good direct for the 3DS. However, they should have shown a video of the Wii U being obliterated by Nintendo execs. Talk about not caring at all about those Wii U console owners. Rough times are ahead if they think they're going to recapture the console market with whatever the NX is.
Aww, the US version had a fake beard? I'm so jeolous now.
I enjoyed it overall. Sonic was shown! We got the nice surprise of Mario Sports Superstars, and I'm really liking how Mario Party Star Rush looks. The only sad part is that it's pretty clear the Wii U is dead.
Enjoyed it a lot:
* Mario Maker on 3DS is good for me, as I'd rather spend a long time playing "creator tool" type games on a handheld
* I'm going to get Pokémon Moon, even though I haven't played one since Pokémon Blue
* Simply cannot wait for Dragon Quest VII
* Dragon Quest VIII is brilliant as well
* Am interested in Ever Oasis, although I hope there's more to the gameplay than in Fantasy Life
* Pikmin 3DS looks promising. It does make me wonder whether they really wanted to make a side-scrolling Pikmin, or it's just because of the 3DS's limitations. But hey, you never know, it could be better than the 3D ones.
* I saw 7th Dragon III, but didn't see it's being released in Europe? That's great.
10/10 Direct, the announcement of the Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack coming straight afterwards was absolutely fantastic. The other announcements just made the Direct even better though I'm neutral about the YWW and SMM ports.
I do wonder if the NX won't even be announced this year due to there being such a huge number of 3DS games combined with still thinking the Eurogamer leak about NX being a hybrid is realistic.
I loved this direct.
Thoughts
1.All was great only thing missing was Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal for 3DS VC.
2.Great surprises
Score 9.75/10.0
Good job
Also it is time for the Wii U funeral service
The wii u was a great console and had many great games.
RIP Wii U 2012-2016
I'm really happy with some of the titles they announced, including Picross 3D Round 2, which I have been waiting for since last year! I'm definitely gonna invest in this alongside Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, and Mario Sports Superstars.
For the 3DS, this was a great direct. Lots of surprises and a good steady stream of games, despite it being almost 5.5 years since the 3DS came out.
For Wii U owners, especially those with only a Wii U (like myself)? It's pretty disappointing to see Nintendo not only show nothing for the Wii U (despite the Skyward Sword port) but announce that two of the biggest Wii U games of last year will be ported over to 3DS. I get that it doesn't affect the Wii U releases in any way, but it is still disappointing considering Wii U isn't getting any new games or 3DS ports. All would (almost) be forgiven if Nintendo releases a 3DS player that connects to the Wii U haha. This was a 3DS direct so of course there would be mostly 3DS stuff, but I highly doubt Nintendo would host a Wii U direct or announce some new Wii U games in the future.
I really don't understand how Nintendo expects to have most of the Wii U crowd upgrade to NX. I will eventually, as will many on this site, but many others will probably be burned by Nintendo's complete lack of caring for the Wii U. Frankly even ports of last gen games in HD would be fine. It also doesn't send a good message to potential buyers of the NX, as they see how Nintendo treats its current home console once it doesn't meet expectations.
Re the Wii U is dead
Earlier this year Nintendo projected 800,000 Wii U sales between April 1 2016 and March 31 2017, its financial year. It then went on to sell 220,000 in its first quarter between April 1 and June 30, 2016. That is only 1 quarter and typically a slow 1 for videogame hardware sales. 4 x 220k = 880k, so all Nintendo had to do was sell as many each quarter to go over their prediction. And that doesn't include the holiday quarter of October to December when you would expect a lot more sales than April to June.
So either Nintendo really really doesn't want to sell Wii U, or it only has 600k left and it doesn't want to make any more. Because with a holiday price cut and Zelda Breath of the Wild in March it should easily surpass 800,000 for their financial year. But it seems like Nintendo is trying really hard not to sell any.
I don't know, maybe they're afraid to anger people buying one this holiday ahead of NX. Which they could avoid by announcing NX. But they aren't just treating NX as the ugly stepchild, they have hidden it away in the attic where no one can see it. Play Nintendo tour and channel is all 3DS, Youtube and twitter mostly 3DS. They aren't just letting it die, they are actively hiding it.
I think with a price cut and some Selects marketing and Paper Mario and Zelda coming and continuing Splatoon interest they could easily sell more. I just think they don't have any more and they don't want to make anymore. Maybe they will be all in on selling NES Mini this holiday alongside 3DS?
Happy to see SMM on 3DS, although with concern if it is step down version of Wii U.
Mario Sports Superstar looks pretty good.
Ever Oasis caught my interest.
Pikmin side-scrolling spin-off looks pretty awesome.
Happy to see the RPGs featured. Overall a pretty good direct.
Pikmin looks great. Mario Sports looks great. Mario Maker on the go. Yoshi's Wooly World on the go. More RPGs, good times ahead for 3DS owners.
Might make a point of watching the American, or maybe even the Japanese Directs next time the show roles around. I just... can't really get into the Shibata/Valiente double act.
NoA might arguably strain the humour, but I think they hit more often than they miss, and all the presenters are relatively slick and likeable. And I find NoJ's Morimoto quite charming. But NoE's presentations just don't seem to have the natural levity that the Treehouse team bring.
Strange how none of these amazing investigative journalists on Neogaf or EmilyRogers.com or whatever hole they come from have any reliable sources to tell them of these new games in the next few months, yet they have a shed load of them with info on a new super secret console coming out next year. I smell a Rattata
@Grumblevolcano "I do wonder if the NX won't even be announced this year due to..."
And don't forget the NES Mini. I still think Nintendo will only make 50k and eBay scalpers will make them disappear in the blink of an eye, but maybe Nintendo went all in and made 2 million? In the same factories were Wii U used to be made.
CES in January. They'll still unveil it end of September, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a big push at CES.
@rjejr The Eurogamer leaks makes me think Nintendo may be hiding the NX because of how close it is to the Wii U (pretty much it seems like what they would've wanted the Wii U to be). They then wouldn't need to reveal it until like January/February like how Sony is revealing NEO next week and apparently launching in October.
Wii U is definitely being put out of it's misery.....unless Nintendo seriously surprises everyone with a Wii U direct announcing a few new games. Since I dont like handhelds much it saddens me, but this was a good direct for people who prefer handhelds. Now it will be a wait to see what NX is and if it appeals to me enough to buy another console. Kids probably will pick the next so XB2 or PS5 will probably be what they will want in a few years
O-O A Poochy amiibo...

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!! THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED!!!!!!!! I AM THE HAPPIEST MAN ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... Oh yeah, and the NeoGaf 3DS lineup is confirmed fake. I told you all and nobody believed me! Now who's laughing!
@rjejr So how much do you wanna bet that Kirby & the Rainbow Curse will receive a 3DS port in mid-late 2017?
This was a very disappointing direct for me. Pokemon Sun and Moon looks great, but we've already seen a lot of it. Ever Oasis also looks fantastic but AGAIN we've already seen it at E3. Everything else was either Wii U ports (which is a huge stab in the back for Wii U owners), or eShop games that were quickly skimmed over. I really would have liked to see some more Tank Troopers to be honest.
Pretty decent Direct overall. Some nice surprises. The bit with Snorlax was probably my favorite part, though the skits with Reggie and Bill were entertaining.
Overall, I'd say that we'll end up seeing another Direct later on in either November or December that talks about more 3DS games and some NX games (assuming it's been revealed by then, which I believe it will be).
Looks like nx will be backward comptible with 3ds.
Damn you Nintendo!
Kill off my Wii U.
Look, Nintendo, it's fine if you don't want to publish any more games on Wii U. I've come to accept that.
But could we please just get more virtual console stuff on it please? It would really liven up the eShop from the slump of crap indie releases we keep having.
@IceClimbers isn't Kirby already a 3DS game though? I went in with such high expectations and hated it. I have a 52" tv, I don't want to spend the whole game looking at the Gamepad. Either it didn't sell well enough to bother, or they already had Roboton. I suppose next holiday sou days good though, good call.
@Gerbwmu I should have went to the bikini bar for lunch. After venting, lots and lots of venting, it did occur to me that Wii U could still get some games. How hard could Mario Sports be to port? Or that tank game? But it's a real long shot, all those ports should wind up on NX. But if they get announced you get credit.
@GravyThief Good point, but I think most of the rumour mongers are in the west, most of these new games and ports are being made in Japan, so the rumour mongers might not be in the right places to find out about them.
Or they were focusing all of their inner moles on NX news, not 3DS games. Still a good point, but not clear cut, your point can be logically debated.
"And now, a moment of silence for the Wii U."
Butchered Titanic recorder
@smm1 I would buy a 3ds player in a heart beat.
Love my game boy player.
I just can't do the small screen gaming.
@Cyberbotv2 agree here.
I'm this close to getting a ps4...
NX would not be purchased by me in this case.
@NintyFan I would not bet on the Wii U games actually being released...
@Yorumi If the NX is a hybrid then it will get good game support as there won't be any division between 2 consoles. People can buy it without fear. Why anybody would ever buy another home console ever again I couldn't tell ya.
As for why all the 3DS support I'm thinking price and timing. Wii U is hidden away, only 600k left to sell. No income for Nintendo there. NX will be an expensive console, hybrid, home, whatever it won't be cheap, and its launching in March. (Unless it's been delayed, all these 3DS games and no news have me worried about a delay.) So very few NX sales and therefore NX game sales for awhile, Nintendo needs income. Lots of 3DS games for the first half of 2017, after that its all NX.
No Wii U games in a "Nintendo 3DS Direct" ?
I think the title was a bit of a give away. Lol
@SmaMan I've long stopped trying to figure Nintendo's VC efforts out in NA. Japan gets a ton. Europe seems decent in that they get them 6 months before we do. There is basically no reason to not release more games on new 3DS. Should be able to handle GBA just fine. The WiiU may have issues with third party licensing costs where they might not think they will make the money back, but I doubt it (and Japan is already rolling in those games). I doubt they even want to put the effort forward in improving the service.
@Dakt Yeah that.
But I don't think they are worried about anybody "upgrading safely". Only 13mil of us bought a Wii U, they can say BTFO to us, 10mil of us will do so, its the 87 million Wii owners they want. (If you want to argue all the casuals went to mobile, fine, Im too tired of having that conversation with gatorboi, but somebody is buying all of those Lego, Just Dance and Skylanders game) Or the 60mil very happy 3DS owners who want tv out and a 720p handheld. They aren't worried about Wii U owners, they own us, and there aren't enough of us for them to care about.
But just to be on the safe side, they are purposely keeping our numbers small.
@rjejr Yeah, Kirby has had two 3DS releases in Triple Deluxe and the recently released Planet Robobot. It has the traditional Kirby releases, but it hasn't filled the unorthodox/experimental Kirby quota yet.
A Rainbow Curse port is the easiest, lowest cost way to do that.
If they would keep releasing Wii games for Wii U - albeit at a better clip! - it would go a long way to keeping playing on them til the NX comes out. Instead they let them trickle out ...
Holy Naga! Just when I thought the 3DS's superb library couldn't get any better, Nintendo reveals ports for Super Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World, and a 2D Pikmin game. And then there's the crap ton of games coming out this year like Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice, SMTIV Apocalypse, Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC, Dragon Quest VII, Pokemon Sun and Moon, and SO much more!
I freaking love the 3DS and I'm super excited to see so much support for this amazing handheld. I know the Wii U isn't getting a lot of love right now, but hopefully the NX will be worth it and alleviate this drought.
@Dakt I think they're convinced that their core fans are their handheld fans. That the numbers, while smaller from last generation, show that that's a market that holds up better. And if they can't support home and handheld consoles at the same time and have to merge them, a lot of preference will be given to the handheld people.
@Yorumi I wish they would show us, #tellus but now we have to wonder if that's Pikmin 4 or not, and that's just mean. Somebody posted its the wrong developer, this is some small port company, EAD makes Pikmin, but it would be nice to know without having to think about it.
Pikmin 4 was my reason to buy NX, so it matters to me, I'm not just being grouchy for no reason on this one.
@Danrenfroe2016 I am after the Sony PlayStation 4 Neo for its potential 4K (Not native 4K) even though I am a really big fan of Nintendo.
Like 214 amiibo figures massive of a fan...
By the way, the Wii U is dead. Did anybody say that already?
@rjejr Somebody else said it (you?), but this looks strongly of a reskin of the Chibi-Robo engine on the 3DS. I'd be surprised if this was Pikmin 4.
@Wandman5612 @rjejr
But that Pikmin's not a Pikmin 4. P4 is Coming for NX what even Miyamoto said. This is a adventure like spin-off but it's not a Pikmin 4!.
Anyway the Direct was really weak. Except already existing 3DS titles like DQs, Poks or 7th Dragon the whole new anouncements of new games were just horrible. Another bunch of party games with or without Mario. Another evolution of some existing IP (yes I mean that Pikmin like Chibi Robo esque title that's not Pikmin 4 that's coming to NX) and bunch of boring halfbaked Wii U ports.
If that's what Nintendo had meant at E3 about big new titles for 3DS then well they sux.....
I wonder what the Miitopia thing is at the end of the Japanese Nintendo Direct is?
Pretty decent Direct. Long live the 3DS!
I mean, they said it would be a 3DS focused direct. I'd rather have them porting Wii U games to 3DS and making some profit than putting their resources toward making new incredible Wii U games. We have lots already. They didn't sell, but we can play them. Now, why is the 3DS mostly getting ports and the Wii U mostly getting nothing? Obviously all their major teams and resources are going toward NX games so they have a respectable launch.
@Dakt
I have the same thoughts as well. This could also be why Wii U hasn't seen price drops or new bundles. They are actively sabotaging (for lack of a better term) the Wii U so that all the people who would buy one at $250 or $200 would instead wait to buy the NX at probably the same price as the Wii U is now, if not lower (depending on what it is).
@Danrenfroe2016
Same. Then Wii U owners wouldn't be as salty over all the 3DS games announced cause they could play the huge 3DS backlog (like Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon, etc.)
To those saying the Wii U is dead, to change a quote from Douglas MacArthur 'Old systems never die; they just fade away.'
@rjejr
I highly doubt it's Pikmin 4. Had it been Pikmin 4, there would be no tentative title. You don't need a "Pikmin for Nintendo 3DS - name not final" if you know it's going to be Pikmin 4. It's most likely an offshoot.
@MetalKingShield I believe Nintendo explained some time ago that a 3D Pikmin wouldn't work on 3DS due to the screen resolution so 2D made more sense from a design perspective
@rjejr
They just really really do not want to sell any Wii U systems. As @Dakt said if people buy the Wii U now they would be less likely to purchase an NX. Nintendo wants as many people as possible to purchase an NX, so they would rather people not buy the Wii U (to the point of basically sabotaging the Wii U) so that they can start off with a strong NX user base.
@GravyThief True indeed.
"Oh the NX is this, that the other..."
Meanwhile a batch of completely unexpected 3DS titles appear out of nowhere.
I enjoyed the direct and i don't own a 3ds. The Wii U died at E3 as zelda is it's final game so not sure why people are just realising it. But that's okay. Still glad i got the Wii U. I actually think 2017 will be the last year of the 3DS to move over for NX too. Whether NX is the hybrid portable/home console or 2 seperate versions. Whatever happens merging the home/portable software teams means the same games on both or slight variations.
@rjejr - I'm beginning to think the Nvidia rumors are false or it is just a part of a very complex machine or family. I know the argument for AMD is fairly strong and maybe backwords compatible with 3DS makes more sense. Cut off all Wii U support, make the NX more 3DS friendly as a hybrid system to get the 60 mill to convert and hope that the few Wii U owners who are not 3DS people will follow for the backlog of 3DS titles and what is rumored to be an awesome 1st year for NX......of course the same people saying awesome 1st year also say Nvidia so what do I know.......I need another bottle of emergency vodka.
It was a fine direct, a bit disapointed that they didn't show an english trailer of disney magical world 2 (would have been nice - they only announced the release date which we already knew from nintendo of europe twitter), I mean, it's only one month away now.
I guess we'll have to wait when it comes the launch trailer then :/
@Vineleaf No, I said it was a Kirby Mass Attack skin. Which itself was probably meant to be a Pikmin game but it didn't work so they threw a Kir y skin on it.
I know this probably isn't Pikmin 4, that's probably on NX, but I am just so sick of not knowing, you know? There are at least 5 games officially announced for NX, Zelda, Sonic, Just Dance, DQ, and an indie I forget. If Pikmin 4 is on it, just tell us. A tweet will do.
It would have been nice for Nintendo to throw the WiiU a bone for Christmas, even if it was an eshop HD version of Wave Race : Blue Storm or some other port from a past system.
Nice to see the 3DS still has legs though.
So wiiU is dead and buried, and in the meantime the (naturally dying) 3ds is getting ports, while nothing official about NX....
I don't like that, and any desire i had about purchasing NX is gone
I'm surprised there aren't more people on here like myself who are extremely disappointed by the laziness of the Skyward Sword port. It shows a huge disrespect to Wii U owners to just throw them an old bone instead of, god forbid, making an effort. HD is a perfectly reasonable expectation Nintendo. Come on.
Wii U is dead? Well tbh - THIS WAS A 3DS DIRECT!
I guess we have lots more to come so it might be a while now before the NX reveal to allow the 3ds stuff to settle down. .
I am very disappointed that Skyward Sword isn't getting an HD remake though it would have been nice to have it alongside Windwaker HD and Twilight Princess HD on my Game shelf . .
The Wii U has been dead since E3 2015, but I suppose this Direct can mark the "official moment."
It was a good direct, but nothing spectacular. I find that Mario Maker is stripped away of everything that made it great, and Yoshi is just a meaningless port to get more sales out of the game. I'm not really sure why everyone was gushing over these earlier, unless you're just that excited to have a portable experience with those games. To each their own I guess. Is Nintendo making a statement that if a console fails, don't worry we'll just port all the good games?
My happiest moment was Pikmin. I love the series, and I don't mind this spinoff idea. I of course, hope another 3D Pikmin is in the works for NX.
@cfgk24
Mario Maker and Yoshi being ported is what sparked those comments.
@Yorumi I don't think these games mean as much as other people seem to think. Consider the number of titles developed/published by Nintendo on the GBA after the DS came out:
·The bit Generation series
·DK King of Swing
·Donkey Kong Country 3
·Dr. Mario & Puzzle League
·Drill Dozer
·Mario Tennis: Power Tour
·Mother 3
·Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
·Polarium Advance
·Rhythm Heaven
·The Tower SP
·WarioWare: Twisted!
·Yoshi’s Universal Gravitation
Grantedly, the list is smaller if you start counting from the release of the NDS in the West onwards, but other than that, the situation is quite similar. A couple of ports and some entirely original games. It's not exactly unprecedented.
I missed this one because of work, and from the sounds of things, I didn't miss much. Just the same old crap we've already seen mainly and a few Wii U ports. Lame. When are they showing the NX already?
Excellent Direct! Might be the best direct in the last couple of years!
Lots of games coming to the 3DS that I wanted, like Mario Sports, Mario Maker, the Pikmin 2D (who didn't see that one coming!?) and more Mii Plaza games.
A couple of extra games like Mario Party Star Rush and Ever Oasis are shaping the 3DS as the best gaming experience for the upcoming 6 months.
Nothing for the Wii U? Who cares!!
As we all know, and have known for some time, Wii U is wrapping up. Now's the time to turn the system into a timeless 2000's classics machine. Mod that vWii, grab a 256gb SD and load up your GameCube and Wii collections digitally. Turn that Wii U into a multi-console powerhouse that can play any post-millennial Nintendo console game ever made. GameCube in HD with Pro Controller, Wii in HD with cheats and of course, Wii U games as well. Make it a system worth holding on to for the next 15 years.
@firechicken98
Well I would remind you that if all they ever did was make games people asked for we would be seeing direct sequels the rest of our lives.
That said, there were a lot of people who wanted Mario Maker to come to 3DS, and Yoshi's Wooly World (among other Wii U titles). And I personally know people who have been asking for Picross 3D 2, including myself, and I know @rjejr has been asking for a Mario sports title, so...
I think it's fair to say we did ask for a lot of it.
@Yorumi
Well, I think because for one, you'd have to wait 5 years for those games to be ported. So sure, maybe you could get 2 or 3 Wii U games on 3DS in the end by waiting, but who wants to skip out for 5 years just for 2 or 3 games? And secondly, the Wii U still has a vast library of exclusives not coming to 3DS. Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World are most definitely classics, make no mistake, but that's only 2 games of the library and one of them won't even have online. Doesn't seem legit to miss out on an entire library and wait 5 years, just for 1 and 1/2 games.
That could change if a few more games come to NX, but that's yet to be seen.
There's just so many Wii U games I'd never be ok missing, like DKC Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (only MH game in HD and with voice chat, while 3DS version has neither and no online), Xenoblade X and Splatoon, etc etc (there's plenty others as I'm sure you know).
Everyone is different but me, I just couldn't bare missing out, even knowing I might get 2 (most likely inferior) ports at the end of the generation as consolation.
@rjejr I get it, and I think they could do more along those lines, but it seems to be their culture. I think NoA would tell us more if it were up to them, but they have the feeling of always looking over their shoulder. Considering Miyamoto has talked about its development, it's not like there was set to be a bombshell reveal anyhow.
Wii U is dead... but the 3ds is not. I wonder what this means in relation to the NX? Will the NX also kill the 3DS?
Nintendo is still willing to put money into 3ds development, so I'm hoping (even though it's unlikely) that the NX will be backwards compatible with 3ds games.
Honestly, the Direct was dissapointing for me, since it was ports from Wii U (already have YWW in Wii U), and while it seems like a brilliant RPG, Dragon Quest's artstyle has never appealed to me.
Nothing that would motivate me to get a new game - only Spirit of Justice and Pokemon Moon are on the horizon.
I'll keep using my Wii U. Yeah, its dead, but it seriously deserved a better swan song than this.
The NA version was a nice solid Nintendo direct not just for the content but the pacing and the tone and the editing and even the "acting". Someone with experience was hired to continue in the general direction of past directs or just got much better. The cringey stuff was short, and really, the hammy-fake acting was way more convincing. Good direction to cover the amateurs. Plus, the reveals of the games were carefully ordered and timed so I when there was a title I wasn't interested in I didn't have to wait long.
As I've been curious how well these Directs would continue without Iwata charm and with a particularly important launch coming up soon(???), I find this is a good sign.
Anyway, if I wasn't really tight on money right now, I think I'd be considering at least one more 3DS in the house (or 2DS) mostly to play some Federation Force but now having all this support in the near future making me forget about how NX might replace it.
Like others, I think this is why we might not have gotten a reveal yet. What is there to gain really? Holidays are going to turn people's attention to what is actually available no matter what. And NX won't be available. 3DS will be with new games and amiibo.
@Luna_110 wiiu supporters deserve better treatment 😑
Wait......that beard was fake?
Guys face it... Nintendo is currently following in the footsteps of Sega... Its so so stupid.
@Lady_rosalina
Yes we do!
@Utena-mobile my Question? IS the NEW 3ds going to get any exclusives? or is it the DSi of the 3ds generation?
What is the point of the n3ds... It does everything the norm does but only one game makes use of its hardware.
@JaxonH I did want that sports title, but I was a little confused when I saw my name next to Picross 2.
And I think I'm jumping threads, but yeah a 3DS is looking good. Is it ok if I buy it for MH Stories, or are you going to ridicule my me forever?
I wish they would just do an HD remake of Skyward Sword with new controls. It's such a great game and got such a terrible showing just because of it's controls. Not to mention for some reason it looks terrible now, it actually looked better on the Wii in 480p then it does on the Wii U. It's all grainy now.
@rjejr
Ridicule? I would applaud you!
Although, MH Stories is looking more and more like a holiday 2017 title. Summer at earliest. We're all playing MH Generations now, and would sure love to have you at our side taking down the mighty Glavenus and Astalos.
If there's a legit sale or price drop this fall/holiday, I'd say just get it. What's $200 on a great handheld with 5 years of incredible backlog and even more on the way?
Plus, Dragon Quest VII and VIII. And SMT IV Apocalypes (and original). And Bravely Default and Second. And Persona Q and Etrian Odyssey (like 4 different titles) and Kingdom Hearts 3D. And Fire Emblem! Oh so much Fire Emblem! And Luigi's Mansion, and Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Paper Jam, and Star Fox 64, and Kid Icarus Uprising, and Zelda Link Between Worlds and Ocarina and Majoras Mask, and not one, not two but THREE Monster Hunter games AND hopefully Stories spinoff. And Tales of the Abyss, and Stella Glow, and Resident Evil Revelations and Street Fighter IV, and Smash Bros has Smash Run which is soooo much better than than board game was, and DKC Returns and Kirby Robobot, and Pokemon, and Hyrule Warriors on the go, and 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros 2. And Mario Golf World Tour is amazing, truly. Couod even play some Federation Force together.
And best of all, you can hack it and just smother it in SNES, BS Satellaview and GBA classics. Among others but those even you can appreciate.
@rjejr "Why anybody would ever buy another home console ever again I couldn't tell ya."
You should ask the 65 million that have bought a PS4 and XB1.
There is a market for dedicated home consoles.
There will soon no longer be a market for dedicated portable consoles. People don't like to tote around much more than a smartphone any more.
Nintendo's business strategy:
http://msptelemarketing.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/istock_000014089244xsmall-300x199.jpg
@Danrenfroe2016 well, you have SNES VC games...
tbh, It's pretty much the dsi all over again. It's essentially the PS4 Neo and the Xbox Scorpio, only on a small scale. On one hand, it's the version that Nintendo should have made to begin with but on the other hand if they want to take full advantage of it they're going to have to split the player base.
darned if you do, darned if you don't. (o_O )
This was a great presentation for ppl that love portable gaming, because the 3DS is getting really good stuff, but for ppl like me that like gaming on a tv, Nintendo is really disappointing me, and had obviously pulled the plug on the Wii U. Honestly, I don't even think a great launch from the NX will get me to buy another Nintendo home console at this point
@Utena-mobile And SNES VC is the reason I want it. Already have my fill of NES and GB/C (especially since Nintendo is unwilling to get off their arses and put on Pokemon Pinball), and I have a couple of e-shop cards I am sitting on right now.
Don't see much other reason, though, since I already have Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii.
@hYdeks Yeah, it's kind of sad how fast the Wii U died. I'm probably going to get an NX, but depending on how Nintendo announces it, I'm more than ok with waiting for NX slim or a couple of price drops. I'm done with Nintendo launch day consoles.
I would like to see:
Storage options. 32gb is not enough for the Wii U and I want to see how much NX games rely on storage space.
Launch games. Will there be a decent number of games? and what does their release schedule look like for the year.
Region Free: Fire Emblem, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Fatal Frame, and Tree House Localizations all make me wish I had the chance to choose the version that I want. Especially if the choice is between a physical or a digital copy.
Purchases tied to accounts: If something happens to my console, am I out of all of the dlc and games I bought? How many customer service hoops do I have to jump through to transfer my stuff or if it is as simple as PS4 and Xbox?
Online: If I have to pay for online, will the service be at least as decent as the Sony Network?
too many questions for now. (o_O )
lol at Nintendo Japan calling it the "Happy Price Collection"
im hype for the new zelda amiibo super mario maker on 3ds and yoshis wooly world 3ds and gunvolt 2
@gatorboi352 ""Why anybody would ever buy another home console ever again I couldn't tell ya.""
Funny true story. After I posted that I reread it and I immediately knew it looked wrong, it read exactly like that. But then I looked at the whole thing in context and thought - they'll figure out that I meant a Nintendo home console - so I dind't change it. Guess I should have. But just to be clear, I meant Nintnedo home console, of ocurs epeopel will still buy Sony and MS consoles. Maybe even Apple and Google and Amazon home consoles some day. But not form Ntinedo, the Wii U legacy of no games will live on.
@JaxonH Nintendo should hire you. But you already knew that.
@rjejr
Hey, what's the point in being a Nintendo fan if you're not totally loving the games on Nintendo's consoles?
If I wasn't this enthused over the games available on 3DS I probably wouldn't be a 3DS owner.
Well, actually I probably would just because I buy everything, but I wouldn't be raving about it. You never hear me rave about the Vita, and there's a reason for that. It's library hasn't caused me to fall head over heels bananas for it like 3DS has.
I'd say in order of my personal enthusiasm and love for each console it would go
1 3DS
2 PS4 (a respectable close second)
3 Wii U (a respectable third)
4 X1
5 Vita
But, if taking into account the mods available- A9LH for 3DS and vWii hack for Wii U, turning both 3DS and Wii U into the 2 greatest gaming devices that's ever existed, I'd say
1 3DS / Wii U
3 PS4
4 X1
5 Vita
And yet even the Vita just got God Eater Resurrection and Rage Burst 2, with World of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Builders on the way. Only thing is they're all on PS4. Still, point is if even the worst device has value, how much more then should you be hyped out of your gord for the best!!!
I wanted to comment earlier, but classes and what not. I woke up to watch the direct early like normal, and had fairly low expectations, or so I thought. But honestly this was a really bad direct, for me personally. For one, no mention of Etrian Odyssey V, which is a huge bummer. Second, games that I was interested in such as Ever Oasis and SMT IV Apocalypse really didn't see any new information, but rather reminders that they exist.
The New Leaf update is actually pretty awesome, but at the same time, it feels like an excuse to not make a new one for longer. Hopefully I'm wrong, but that's what it feels like to me.
I'm honestly kinda pissed at all the Wii U ports. Look, I get it, it makes sense, and I'm sure they will be fine ports that work well. However, what bothers me the most is how all the new games, with the exception of eShop fodder and the new Pikmin spin-off, are just Wii U ports! Oh, and Mario Sports. Yeah. The reason why this bothers me is I vaguely recall Reggie or some other Nintendo rep claiming that Nintendo still has surprises in store for 3DS owners, but Wii U ports are hardly surprises, and are certainly not new! Just the thought of Nintendo believing that these ports are great new additions and surprises for Nintendo fans honestly makes me mad, like actually kinda mad.
The last Nintendo developed game I bought for the 3DS was Codename STEAM, and only because it was $10 at GameStop. The last game I bought before that was Super Mystery Dungeon, nearly a year ago. Third parties are offering way better experiences for the 3DS in my opinion. Glad I have a never-ending backlog.
My relationship with this Direct was a typically Nintendo roller coaster. From meh to wow to disappointed again.
"Oh great there's a Direct. Finally the NX"
"Oh they're not showing the NX. I won't bother then"
(Sees a list of what was shown)
"Wow, a Pikmin, a Yoshi spin off, Mario Maker, I must find out more"
"Oh, Pikmin has been through Nintendos 2D rebigulator....that better hadn't be Pikmin 4....Yoshi is the original with the graphic fidelity missing and a few extra levels, I'm not buying it again (fine game though it is) for that....Mario Maker has no online sharing, what the f...."
"Well that's a let down. Still, great to see Picross 3D and the Mario Sports game actually looks really promising"
The circle of Nintendo life.
For anybody who missed it, you all need to listen to @JaxonH when he says "Wii U is wrapping up. Make it a system worth holding on to for the next 15 years."
Seriously.
I didnt like the n direct too much. Defiitely interested in pikmin and mario sports. Couldnt care less about mario maker. Sad thing the wii u is dead.
In regard to yoshi, it seems kind of lazy to me. It should have been a sequel rather than a port. Not gonna buy it again.
It's a shame some seem eager to put the Wii U to pasture. As a Nintendo fan, any commercial failure isn't great news. I still play my Wii U lots, it's a fun machine, and though my PS4 is technically leaps and bounds above it, the Wii U remains the most fun console I've had in years.
Myself, I'm mostly glad that 7th Dragon and Dragon Quest VIII are finally confirmed for having an European release. About time! 7th Dragon looks like a fine game to play during Christmas holidays.
@GravyThief still in denial...
NX is not a PS4 beating home console. Accept the reality and move on with your life.
All signs lead to handheld. A blind man can see that
Not as good as the Cloud for Smash reveal Direct, and I've favoured Wii U over my 3DS so it was less appealing to me.
It's obvious Nintendo favour the opposite, but it's understandable with the NX coming.
It was a great direct on the whole, a little too much on the port/remake end of things. But lots to keep a wide range of people happy.
Just a note though, until Nintendo say something don't believe it. I have not come across much of this stuff being leaked online which goes to show these sites/people are talking utter bull s**t and don't deserve you following or clicking onto to read/hear their thoughts. Cause that's all they are there thoughts.
I saw a story on here about NX and someone commented about the authenticity. They got a reply by the writer of the article saying how this one was going to be true as there sources were good. Please!
Nintendo for facts!!
Love the nes video
@bezerker99 I imagine it'll be just like with Twlight Princess; everyone will get it for the shiny new console. Makes sense to me and from the look of footage so far it could do with running on more powerful software to smooth out the framerate.
@Utena-mobile I get the feeling the 3DS is on its way out too. This definitely feels like the DSi days of the 3DS' life... aka, a suggestion that it could keep going strong before plummeting from all existence! (not before the release of Ever Oasis to tie things up of course).
I'm looking forward to Picross 3D Round 2 and Rhythm Paradise Megamix !!!
I can't decide between the European and the American Nintendo Direct... if I watch the European, I'll get relevant information in annoying Engrish. If I watch the American, I'll get false information presented by Reggie (which knows how to build hype). Why does Europe always miss out on the memes?
@sleepinglion This is Nintendolife, the comment section thrives on misery, hype and disappointment self-created by the commenters themselves. You're not allowed to enjoy your Wii U, you're supposed to find fault in everything Nintendo do. Like expecting a 3DS Direct to be about the NX and HD remasters when it's clearly a 3DS Direct.
@Cooligan Why is a port a huge stab in the back?
I really don't get this. Ports happen and you played all of those games for a long time already.
I own a WiiU myself and would love to see a Splatoon port.
I was hoping for a Mario Maker port (well not this strippe down version).
There are people out there that don't own a WiiU that can now play these games on a different Nintendo console. It is not like they are releasing their games on PC or PS4/One.
@Ninten-san have you seen the Yokia dance!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI30r7RxQi0 Shibata is amazing!
And Zelda: BOTW could have released alongside the 30th anniversary of the franchise. But instead they decided to be jerks and make it a dual release.
@davidevoid
Yes, that's awesome, but that's the only time Shibata did something special in a Nintendo Direct.
Pretty Good direct, and pretty much means that Wii U is dead (in some form).
the ones that i'm interested in:
Animal Crossing New Leaf release date for the update, the amiibo stuff looks pretty interesting
Mario Sports Superstars annouced was interesting, but i got know more. the baseball and soccer one are my personal fav of the Mario franchise Sports. i'll give it ago, looks better then Ultra Smash. though,
Mario Party: Star Rush looks pretty interesting, got Island Tour last year. didnt like it much, hopeing this one better
Disney Magical World 2: liked the 1st one, i'll enjoy the sequel
Yoshi: WW is coming to 3ds. looks like a decent port, glad i have not gotten the game for Wii U, otherwise i would not care for this port.
Ever Oasis: looks pretty decent so far, still has that Animal Crossing feel to it with RPG elements.
The Meh stuff
Super Mario Maker for 3DS: the lack of Online of sending courses for everyone to play, mystery mushrooms. just makes this a lesser version of this game, and i already have this game, so i don't care much about this port. while understand that 3DS can't do like the Wii U can for it's exclusives. i would been okay with this port, if it ATLEAST support Course Sharing for everyone then just the Top 100 ones.
Pikmin 3DS: don't know much about it, looks abit interesting. but i gotta see more for my final judge for this game
I loved the goofy stuff. That is what makes good Nintendo Directs and sets them apart: they have fun.
@Ninten-san how about this!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtWgvmaPBAA I know what you mean though, we feel like a younger brother here in Europe.
7/10 direct was pretty good overall.
@Sinister That's just the natural reaction to consoles losing exclusives, you may have noticed the same kind of reaction when Microsoft announced some XB1 exclusives going to PC. The same reactions would've happened if say games like Kid Icarus Uprising, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Fire Emblem Awakening/Fates were ported to Wii U.
@RatKing64 What I was trying to say was that Nintendo knows that the Wii U has flopped, but wants to give the other console more popularity before they release the NX. They want more people to forget about the Wii U, so they are willing to buy the NX. I definetly could have used better word choice, though.
@Chrno-x I completley forgot Miyamoto said that! Besides YWW, my main complaints were that a few of the titles givien "screen time" were just heavily stripped versions of other games. For example, Mario Maker 3DS doesn't have Mystery Mushrooms that added so much uniqueness to the levels. So much lost potential.
And the following day as a bonus they send out 500 dcma notices to all the die hard fans making great content they wont. Kimishima putting the boot in. So sad to see a company that once thought so much about there fans not give a damn about them now. Worse than sony or microsoft any day.
@Sinister
Yeah it's strange. The ports make perfect sense. Nintendo have sold 13 million Wii U's and 60 million 3DS. That suggests a few million 3DS owners (who presumably have some interest in Nintendo games) without a Wii U. Big audience to ignore.
@Grumblevolcano Na it is just petty.
One users are mostly unhappy because PS4 players are happy about it evn tho those have nothing to do with it. PC, One and PS4 are competitors for the same audience as well.
WiiU and 3DS are not competitors for the same audience. And i highly doubt 3DS owners would have been upset if Dark Moon or Kid Icarus would have been ported to the WiiU.
At least i would have been happy since both are great games that would look awesome in 720p.
Just remembered something that I was hoping for that didn't get a mention; Detective Pikachu. The movie suggests the game will come to the West, but not soon apparently.
@JaxonH "If I wasn't this enthused over the games available on 3DS I probably wouldn't be a 3DS owner.
Well, actually I probably would just because I buy everything, but I wouldn't be raving about it"
Nice catch. I know you just told somebody yesterday you would buy a console if it only had 1 or 2 games you wanted, b/c if you want to play a game badly enough you'll buy that console. And, you're still looking for 1 game to justify your PSVR purchase. Which isn't a console, but for $400 it might as well be considered as one for this conversation.
I think you've missed my biggest point though, I just am not a handheld gamer. I don't like little screens, I like my 2 tvs, small 39" in the bedroom, and getting smaller every day 52" in the basement. And both of those are hooked up to 5.1 surround sound systems. Though in full disclosure, no bass in the bedroom, my wife disapproves, so just 5.0 in there. I like it big and loud.
So yes, 3DS has great games, and the XL is just about ok. But they are a last resort. 3DS "Player" for Wii U would be day 1. If NX is bc w/ 3DS games, whether it's a handheld w/ TV or a home consle, I dont care anymore, as long as they'll play on my TV, then we are very likely to buy 1 soon after launch. And I am very likely to be buying a whole bunch of 3DS games. So if you can speed up that NX reveal so I know whether to buy a 3DS or not, that would be great, thanks. But it has to have tv out in 1 form or another, which I'm 100% sure it will.
Honestly? Tank Troopers might end up being something special. I'm not seeing much chatter about it under all the other, more notable, announcements. But I can see them trying to pull an "Overwatch Jr" sorta style, and it might actually work well for the format. Time will tell.
@Utena-mobile But MS and SONY will actually support the new systems lol.
Nintendo just wants us to drop money and then get screwed on games. I'm really tired of Reggie telling me that i'm wrong and than Nintendo is always learning. I am like PROVE IT REGGIE!
@rjejr
I like big TV screens and sound too, but, you hold the handheld close to your face so the size it "appears" is not all that different from a TV.
And all you gotta do is toss in some BOSE earbuds and you'll get amazing sound too.
The experience playing games like that is very worthwhile, probably more than you think. I mean sure, there's no substitute for Monster Hunter in HD but, I still have a heck of a good time playing on 3DS
@rjejr I feel like the console only gamer is a dying breed in the Nintendo camp sometimes. I am what I like to call a reluctant handheld gamer. Nintendo is great at seperating out their handheld and console experiences (although the NX may change that) unlike sony which still has too many ports, but it comes often at the expense of the console gamer. I've been at home playing fantasy life today and while I had fun, I couldn't help but be annoyed by the fact that I'm stuck hunched over a handheld when I have a perfectly good tv. The fact that there are some really great 3ds games and that the wiiu can handle dual screens makes the lack of a 3ds player that much more grating. The fact that the 3ds is getting enhanced ports of wiiu games doesn't help either.
@Ryu_Niiyama For me gaming and T.V. are the way to go but, when I first saw Wii U and 3DS on the store I had a hunch and bought 3DS expecting a better RPG line up... years later, this happened...
I'm really hoping those rumours about the NX being a portable console hybrid are real. That would be the end of my gaming problems.
@JaxonH I read your PSVR comments before your reply, I hope I dind't set you off, I know my negativity can be contagious.
Here's how I play videogames. I sit on the couch .My son sits next to me. My other son sits next to him. My wife sits next to him. I play Ni No Kuni. After my kids go to bed my wife sits next to me and I play Bayonetta. And after school my kids and I play multiplayer stuff like Skylanders and Lego Dimensions. I don't really game that much alone. Just Splatoon, b/c everybody had to leave the room b/c I was cursing so loudly. Eventually I had to stop.
I still look forward to the day when I have a 1 hour train commute like my wife so I can play Kid Icarus, but that's probably about 6 years away. We'll see.
@Ryu_Niiyama To late for 3DS player now, it would sell Wii U and Nintnedo doesn't want that. But yesterday was the first time I really thought the NX handheld or hybrid or home would play 3DS cartridges, just too many games coming out over an extended period of time to have them only play on an obsolete system. I thought Pokemon S&M was the 3DS swan song, apparently I was very wrong.
Well, either that, or NX is delayed until next holiday, around Nov 2017, after all the last of the 3DS games release.
@rjejr sigh yeah I know the 3ds player is a pipe dream but I'm holding out until I know more about the NX before I ship mine to katsukity.
@Ryu_Niiyama "3ds player is a pipe dream"
I don't think a "3DS Player" is a pipe dream, in fact just the opposite. I think a "3DS player" that works w/ Wii U won't happen now, but I feel strongly that NX will play 3DS games on tv, therefore it will be a 3DS Player in all but name. NX is sort of 4DS w /TV out. Nobody would have called New 3DS a "DS Player" if it had included TV out, but it would have functioned as a DS Player.
I'm still not sure what NX will be hardware wise, but with all of these new 3DS games coming out over the next 12 months, it would make sense for NX to play them. Give people reasons to buy new hardware in March while they wait for new NX games.
People have been complaining about NX not being backwards compatible w/ Wii U, no optical drive would assure that, but I think Nintendo can make money porting those games to NX, maybe on cartridges or downloads. There are only 13mil Wii U, a lot of people have not played those games so they can be sold as new so to speak. SSB, MK8, XCX. a lot of people may buy them for $40 each. But there are 60mil 3DS, most people who want to play Pokemon or Monster Hunter already own a 3DS and those games, trying to SELL them again might not work, everybody has already played them, but not on TV. People may buy an NX to play games they already own on TV. They might not buy both the NX and the games again though since they have already played the games.
So a 3DS player may be coming, it's name is NX.
Sorry so long, got carried away. Dig the avatar, new right?
@rjejr Yep new avatar, from Perfume as is my trademark.
I try to ignore the NX rumors for now; as I base my hype and pre orders on what is announced officially and not what is a possibility. However, I do hope that you are correct with the NX possibly playing 3ds and/or ds games in addition to the NX games. I'm fine with the non Wiiu BC as I have two of them, and currently use them both in place of having my wii hooked up. If the NX is BC with 3ds, that more than anything will get me to buy it day one (plus it will hopefully mean that the gamepad is here to stay for one more gen- I love that controller although the amiibo push makes me think that is the case anyway) as opposed to any other possible game title. I'm getting Zelda on WiiU first so that isn't enough to pull me in this time. I don't want to admit it, but I think I'm reaching a point where I need a break from gaming. Nintendo still delivers for me, but with less games and Sony and Microsoft have been a big disappointment for me this gen. Plus I'm at that point that I want to start focusing on things like buying a house.
Don't worry I don't mind long posts...I make them from time to time myself.
Why no mention of Picross 3D for the Wii U VC?
@Grumblevolcano Going thru my email backlog - hard to keep up over the summer w/ my kids home from school - and came across something I thought i'd share w/ you. The original "Fusion" specs from Jan 2014, 30 months ago. The specs don't matter too much, I'm sure plenty has changed, but I think it's interesting the idea of DS and Terminal kind of being lost the past few months. I'm wondering if Nintneod really is letting the whole "hybrid" thing play out s they can announce the 2 system Fusion. (I called it "System b/c that's what the Spaltoon winners get "new Nintendo system". )
http://nintendonews.com/news/general/nintendo-fusion-could-be-nintendos-next-gen-hardware-name/
