My kids don’t really get junky cereal, but I get them some special cereal treats a few times a year. We’re working through the classics. Last year during monster cereal season, they got Frankenberry and BooBerry. This morning they get to try Count Chocula and Frute Brute.
This will be the first time in probably 35 years that I’ve partaken in the Count. I’ve always loved the fruity monsters, and never been real big into chocolate cereal. From memory, it’s pretty light on the chocolate flavor compared to something like Cocoa Puffs or Chocolate Pebbles. I will/do keep you posted.
@Tasuki - I didn’t realize Frute Brute had been re released prior to this year, I was happy to see him. It was a little before my time as well, I think he got discontinued in 81/82, so I was probably still eating with my hands. I love the cherry/lime combination, but I would guess maybe GM found it a bit odd and even a bit extreme by the standards of 2012. Thanks to my grandma’s magical cereal drawer, I had Yummy Mummy a few times before she was discontinued. She really needs to make her comeback.
Quaker Oatmeal Squares (Cinnamon flavor) is my main go-to cereal these days - low sugar-ish, with decent fiber and protein. To make it healthier I'll put chopped strawberries on it, or banana, or somtimes sprinkle uncooked, plain instant oatmeal on top with cinnamon. And, I only eat cereal with almond milk anymore. If people aren't into almond milk, I get it. But, in adulthood, I realized I was tired of tasting the slight burned tasted of pasteurized milk - that's honestly a joke tasting the pasteurization. Also, I'm totally over needing sweetness/sugar from milk. So, I was surprised I ended up preferring almond milk to cow milk. Also, I think almond milk is a great cheat for shaving calories off of eating cereal. (None of my talk about almond milk is a put down of cow milk. Wanting to cut suguar from my diet, replacing cow milk with almond milk was great substitute.)
@TheJGG Sometimes I use the Reese's Puffs on top of plain shredded wheat. But that cereal does taste amazing. (Actually, in the US here, Wegmans grocery store has their own generic version of Reese's Puffs for half the price. It's amazing. If Wegmans stopped making it, I'd go back to Reeses.)
And Frosted Chocolate Mini-Wheats with almond milk makes for healthier alternative if I have junk food cravings. Frosted Chocolate Mini-Wheats have a decent protein, fiber, to sugar ratio compared to full on junk food. Going off memory, I think it's like 6g fiber, 11g sugar, 6g protein.
@bimmy-lee I am thinking it was maybe a cost cutting measure not to make the marshmallows lime this time around. General Mills uses marshmallows in alot of other cerals other then Frute Brute and to only produce a lime marshmallow for a few months a year, not very cost efficient. Either that or maybe feed back when they brought it back years ago.
I never had Yummy Mummy when I was a kid, my parents wouldn't allow us to have the sweet cereal, it was usually corn flakes, raisin bran or Kix. I wasn't even able to have the Nintendo Cereal, I only got to have it a few times and that was when I slept over at my friends house.
I didn't have Yummy Mummy till a few years ago when they brought it back. I was hoping it was coming back this year when I saw Frute Brute was back, but again maybe because of the marshmallows.

@Eel That might be it maybe because it doesn't contain any fruit the have to spell it Frute as opposed to Fruit because some ***** will try and sue them for false information.
It seems more likely that you can trademark a made up word like frute whilst you can’t claim ownership of the word fruit.
@RR529 the Halloween crunch is great. Although, it doesn't taste any different than the OG crunch. I just love the green milk. Nearly finished with my box and I'll crack open the boo berry next.
@RR529 Oddly I haven't been able to find the Monster Cereals at all this year at Walmart. The only place I found it at that I shop at regularly is Winco.

@Tasuki, yeah, out local Wal-Mart had Boo-Berry & Franken-Berry two weeks ago (no Count Chocula though), but absolutely nothing this week (just more Cinnamon Toast Crunch where they were).

Lately I having been enjoying the hell out of Marshmellow Fruity Pebbles. I bought a box the other day and scarfed it down so I went to get another box. Couldn't find it but I found the generic store brand version which is just as good.

Finished up the Pokemon cereal yesterday. I don't eat too many fruity cereals (it was "Berry Bolt" flavored), so it was a nice change of pace. That, & the Pikachu and lightning bolt shaped marshmallows were cute & a nice treat.

I just ran out of my Halloween cereals. Need to go back and buy some more stuff. Might try chocolate frosted flakes Halloween edition or fruit loops Halloween edition.
